Eberron isn't Steampunk

i like fantasy and i like the pulps and film noir, but the more i see of Eberron, the less i like it.

i guess i'm not a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup kinda guy -- while i like the tastes individually, i don't think they "taste great together." at least not in this incarnation. :(

Getting...mental...image...Noooooooooooo! My eyes haven't hurt this much since Mr. Raines in the Speedo suit. I have to wash my brain out now.

Aww, great, Umbran, now my eyes are bleeding again! I'm still paying the bills from the eye surgery when Piratecat showed up with the nekkid bullywug love slaves! Now what'm I gonna do?

--------

Steampunk or no, I'm waiting for June until I pass final judgment.

Steampunk doesn't fit at all. Many people label the Iron Kingdoms Steampunk when it barely even fits the definition. Some fans actually refer to that setting as "fantasteam".

Someone asked what the big deal was with calling it steampunk. We should not call it steampunk because there are some people out there who don't like steampunk. If they are erroneously told that Eberron is steampunk they will immediately think it's not for them when in fact it might be exactly what they are looking for.

Frankly I find it kinda silly to label the setting at all given how little we know about it.

I gotta agree, from what I've read about Eberron, there's no steam and no punk. So the steampunk label is just silly.

Pulp Fantasy Noir is what they're calling it, so that works for me.

Mmmm... Fantapulp. :)

Doesn't it have just the nicest soft(drink) feel to it?

But guys, really, 3 pages and you're still goin' on about this? Obviously there isn't going to be any concensus on this so why not say, "It's Eberrronian!" so you can avoid any undesirable associtions with... those other guys. ;)

Cheers!

I must say, I'm beginning to really like the look of Eberron. If they've actually managed to pull off a world where D&D works, without neutering magic, without pretending that you need penniless peasants for it to be realistic, I'll be impressed, because that's what a lot of people seem to be looking for.

[Fantapulp?] Isn't that the stage before the vile orange fizzy drink is produced?

I don't know what a fantabeast is, but if they pulp it to create Fanta, it's probably got the Acid subtype. I've experimented on that stuff in the past, and it's frighteningly corrosive. Triple or quadruple the corrosiveness of Coke.
