Eberron - motivations for shifters, changelings, warforged, psi-race?

Driddle

First Post
One of the aspects I appreciate about the new Eberron setting is that no overarching motivations have been preset for the new races. They've been left with open-ended racial goals and not much of a cohesive culture -- especially the warforged, who aren't much older than trees in my own neighborhood. ((And, yeah, I forgot the name of the psionic dudes in the header of this topic thread.))

So I'm curious as to what directions you'd like to take with a PC of one of the new races. Will your changeling explore the lighter side of his humanity as a bard? Will your warforged choose the path to enhance his 'biology' as a combat machine, or will he become a peaceful philosopher instead? ... That sort of perspective.

Please, share.

The warforged interest me the most. If I was a warforged, some of the philosphical issues that I would have to grapple with is:

Do I have a soul?

How do I view myself and my creators, in light of the fact that my creators are flawed, imperfect creatures - not divine?

How do I view myself and others in light of the fact that the only reason for my creation was that I was created as a 'tool of war'?

Without a war to fight and being created for that purpose - what effect does that have on my psyche when the only purpose that defined my existance is to a degree ......gone?

How do I feel about myself and the other warforged when we are a people without any roots or ties to the past? We have no traditions, customs or beliefs we can truly call our own. In other words, short of the purpose for which we are created, we have no sense of identity other than which we have experience in our limited 30 year existance.

What about warforged 'rights'? Are we considered 'equals' among the other races? (Consider if you will that even into the early part of the 20th century, woman were not considered equals - they were not allowed to vote, were excluded from a lot the activities that males could enjoy and even in some instances, are not considered 'persons' under the law)

Just some musings that would color what a warforged character must consider. Which make the philosphical issues so interesting for them.

Before a rules lawyer jumps in here, I'd just like to note that while we the players know that the warforged have souls, because they can be raised from the dead, given the relative scarcity of resurrecting magic in the world, it's hardly a commonly accepted fact. On top of that, even if a cleric assures you that you have a soul, the questions of "How do I have a soul? Why? Where did it come from?" all still remain.

Certainly, all your thoughts on the warforged are the sorts of things I'd like to see people thinking about, BlackMoria. I'm curious to see what else people will come up with in the thread.
