ECL Question?

Er, "got it in one" as in "got the right answer in one guess" -- just confirming your assessment of what I'd been talking about in my FIRST post to this thread.

Sorry, I was going by the Dungeon Masters Guide and not the Dragon or FR Campaign book. So is the lizardfolk ECL +4 offical or is it just for FR. I checked the eratta for the DMG and it didnt mention it. Hopefully they (Wizards) will finally give a clearer and more defined explantion of ECL's with their new Races book.

The DMG does not use ECL, it uses a different system with "level adjustments." ECLs were introduced in FRCS and have been used in every subsequent WotC product that features powerful races. Presumably they will be used for the monster PC book as well.

A lizardman that has 1 level of fighter would be a 5th level character with 3 HD (2 from race, 1 from class). He would only get 2 skill points + INT mod for the fighter level. One of his monster HD would be maximized, instead of his fighter HD.
