ECL+ races : do they get level benefits?

The "errata" for ECLs is a Dragon magazine article that has a listed ECL for everything in the Monster Manual; half-celestial was bumped up to +5, the Tarrasque is a +80 (if I remember right), and ogres and centaurs both got bumped up to +8.

If I remember right, it was the promotional for some sort of splat-book for monsters (Tooth and Claw, or something like that) that never actually got released.

Tossing my own answer to Reaper's question:

1) Starting gold and XP of a 4th level character.
2) No attribute points. Monster levels do not count towards the acquisition of attribute point, nor do they count towards the "feat every three levels" progression. ECL levels do not count towards max skill ranks either, unless the ECL levels involve actual hit dice (such as an ogre's would). Even then, only the actual quantity of hit dice applies, not the total ECL.
3) The FRCS is a lot clearer on the matter than the DMG is. Neither really tackles how to handle a ECL race that includes hit dice with associated feats, however. Just handle it however you work out slapping class levels onto a monster.

It wasn't exactly promotional. It was preliminary work for the book now known as Savage Species. The writer(s) didn't playtest those numbers. They just guestimated, and the very same article even asked that its readers take a look at them, and if they had any suggestions for changing the numbers, to please email/mail them in. They didn't want to do all the testing on their own, but the numbers were very preliminary and weren't final at all.

I suspect they got a lot of email then considering how big the argu..debates were here.

No doubt. Some of the numbers were pretty good, but some a were a bit off, just rough guesstimates.
