That would be a huge mistake, IMO. It's a disservice to the character.

Maybe, but it happened decades ago. Like I said, they already moved him to Ravenloft, which changed his backstory quite a bit, especially in so far as the events of the DL modules were concerned.

So this ship has already sailed I think.

He was later moved back to Dragonlance. Weis and Hickman maintain that he never went to Ravenloft, so take that for what you will. ;)

One thing I don't like about WotC's approach to things is that they tend to take setting-specific elements, then generalize them for a broader audience. I can see why they do that, making things more accessible to a broader audience, but it takes out what makes those things unique for the setting.

Oh, well.

Little short for an elf isn't she?
Elves are pretty short even in 3.5. That combined with the steep angle she's at means she's probably chest-high on the death knight when she's upright. I figure, elves are the short side of Medium and death knights are probably on the tall end to make them a bit more imposing -- in 3.5, that means that the elf could be 4 feet tall and the DK 8 feet tall. I figure it's more like 4.5 versus 6.5, but eh.

Also, looking at the Dragonlance nexus, Soth's story in the article sounds about right; did they just change it? I didn't take a long look at it the first time.

I like the article. I hope Death Knights can still be a little blasty though. I'd miss that aspect if they were made pure melee machines.

Well, I think it will be fairly easy to ignore Soth if you think it damages him to remove him from DL.

I know some folks have also done the same with the Bigby's Hand spells in non-Greyhawk campaigns too.

I can see it both ways.

For myself, I'm much more likely to use Genghis Khan at the head of an undead army of horse archers than Soth.

I thought the article indicated that the abyssal blast power was added back after the second design pass. I read the DL Nexus and Wikipedia entries for Lord Soth, and I don't see why the Dragon summary was so off.

My memory's shaky, but I don't recall that even being close to right. But then, all I really remember is that he had a thing for elf chicks. (Which really doesn't narrow things down much.)
Actually, the second half of the tale (the chance to avert the cataclysm to the rise after burning to death in his own keep) is part of the original tale. However, the first part (the pseudo-child) is new (it still keeps the infidelity of Lord Soth as a major part of the story, though).

Back to the Elf v. Death Knight: I also note that her armor is rather tastefully done in a leaf motif--except for that tail flap thingy, which looks like it's not actually part of the armor. Maybe it's another Priestess/Paladin of Bahamut clue?

Looking more at the picture...

Does anyone else think it looks like the elf (or whatever) was added/photoshopped in after the fact? Maybe it's just the aura of electricity, but it really looks to me like she was stuck on over the rest of the image.
