Edition War Across the Net or Where Have You Been?

I think you mean "devoid". And no, it's not. Just because you don't like what people have to say doesn't mean that good conversation isn't taking place. Even in threads that highlight the population's support for 4th Edition and dislike for 3rd/3.5/Pathfinder the conversations are usually pretty well-considered.

Really, that's some completely unnecessary hyperbole.

Meh, spelling has never been my strong point. I'm not a professor of English, I'm a professor of laser.

And no, it's not hyperbole. The issue is not that I "dislike what they're saying," the issue is that they're a bunch of loud mouthed idiots who go out of their way to antagonize, yell at, insult, put down, openly dismiss, and make arses of themselves at anyone who disagrees with them. They are the very living persona of the edition war. If the edition war has a physical avatar, I could tell you where to find it.

Coming from you this is pure comic irony.

It's seems we all lost our innocence in this war... :p

Eh, I didn't have any innocence to lose. As a grizzled survivor of multiple console and PC platform wars, the 3.x VS 4E war didn't really show me anything new except that it clearly sank the conceit that tabletop gamers are as a whole more civil and less prone to falling into savagery than videogamers.

Do a stint on a GameFAQs console board for a week and you've seen it all.

Truly, we were all orcs in the Great (edition) War :p

RPGNET is very pro 4e and very anti 3.5/pathfinder... more pathfinder is just hurts them somehow. They are very fast to dog pile you saying things that would get you banned here. It's just like it was back on the wotc boards before I left.
It's very easy to get banned from TBP. All you have to do is be on the wrong side of the argument. At least that's the way it was on rpg.net a few years ago. They've banned me three times over there and I behave the same way over here and the mods here at EN World don't have any real problem with me. So yes, you can skirt their rules more easily over there as long as you're on the mod approved side of an issue. I've not bothered with that site for years and I'm not exactly itching to return to it.

Yeah, I never suffered from that particular fallacy in the first place, so I'm good. Gamers are the same as people everywhere else with any other hobby. The idea that gamers are somehow "special" is a pet peeve of mine. That particular fallacy even has a name, believe it or not.

"Pisshole devout of intellectual conversation," huh? Not even a chance. In my experience it's the best place on the web to discuss non-D&D games. Either way, that's a non-grandma-friendly insult that you need to avoid in the future.

When those kinds of insults start getting tossed around, it's a good sign that this thread has run its course.
