Eight is Enough: How Many Classes?

My opinion, and this might be a wholy far-fetched fantacy idea, is that the first PHB has 3 sources right? Martial, Arcane, and Devine
I think Wizards is going to have each type of character have somthing from all 3 of those

The Arcane Striker, Martial Striker, and Devine Striker
The Arcane Defender... and on and on and on

I mean it makes sense to me in my little world of "Options, not restrictions" ideals

But I could be totaly off

Actually, Logan's statement was:

There are 8 classes in PH1, but more will come out later in other books and the magazines.

I really can't parse that as "8 or more in PH1." That's "8 now, more later."

Yes but his now is our then and his later is our now. So since now is later, there COULD be more classes in the PH. An extra 22 pages should definitely be able to fit anotehr couple of classes in. If they went that route. We'll all find out in a bit over 7 months.

I'm still hoping for 12 classes in the PHB. One for each power source, for each role. So a Martial, Arcane, and Divine Defender. A Martial, Arcane, and Divine Leader. A Martial, Arcane, and Divine Striker. And a Martial, Arcane, and Divine Controller.

Yep, me too, but I don't think it will happen, as that would actually make sense…

I think they already stated that this might not exactly happen, because some of these combinations might not make much sense or be hard to work out (what does a Martial Controller do?), and we (or rather: they as designers) shouldn't let ourselves be fooled otherwise just because the symmetry looks so nice.

The 3E PHB has 11 classes, right? and they said that 4E will have less (I'm pretty sure I saw this somewhere...), so 3 sources x 4 roles = 12 classes is out of question... right? :uhoh:

I think 8 being 'middle of the range' means more than 8, since we've heard about 8 classes so far in the playtests, so I believe 9 is the number - mostly because of the warlock becoming a striker, something they havent predicted at the start of development. And I really hope the 9th class is druid :D

They have also said they are not aiming for one class per role and source. In my oppinion it would be lame and square to have one of each.
