Eladrin

Pronunciation?

I think it's cool that Eladrin, Fey and Elves will finally be more closely related…finally!

And this is coming from a Planescape freak.

Assuming that the OP is indeed correct, its a change that I am very much looking forward to. Saves me inventing similar changes that I already have had in mind for a while, but never gotten around to implement in my campaigns.

"Sucks to your Aasimar!" (Darn, somebody beat me to it...)

Seriously though, I don't mind having a hundred playable races in the Players Handbook. If they want to devote an entire chapter to elves and elven subraces, that's fine by me. I can always ignore text I do not want to use.

I have always found a disconnect between the elven propensity for arcane magic and high civilization, while simultaneously being portrayed as almost tantamount to spirits of nature.

It has to do with the division in Tolkien between Calaquendi and Moriquendi. I guess the Calaquendi become Eladrin, rather than "high" Elves? If it's so, it's just a question of nomenclature. If one doesn't like the particular use of the name, just read "Tuatha Dé Danann" or somesuch whereever one finds "Eladrin".

Too many elven subraces out there. Make them look different and give them another name, seriously how many specialized isolated elves with wierd powers do we really need?

Eladrin remind me waaay to much of Blood elves (sun elves) in World of Warcraft.

If we get Sylvan elves, Eladrin, and Drow in the new PHB, I hope someone goes and stabs the developers with a fork. Talk about overkill.

Eladrin remind you of elves that became literally addicted to magic, to such a point that the large majority of their remaining population wanders around in a state of perpetual intense withdrawal because their source of magic was destroyed by the most powerful being to ever set foot on the world?

Sorry, don't see it. This is just another "Waaa D&D is becoming WoW" baseless whine.

I don't think Eladrins will be a PHB player race. What it sounds like is that Elves are the mortal subrace of Eladrin.

Me too, except for the part where they are in no way like Blood Elves.

Yeah. Talk about overkill.
