D&D 5E Elemental weapon... Paladin only, goes up to 7th level?

I get the feeling there must be some sort of oversight here? You can build paladin/full-caster hybrid that can learn Elemental Weapon and also have a 7th level slot, but it's not easy.

Paladin smite spells are great for bards, they can learn them levels before a paladin ever could, can cast more of them in a day, and cast them using higher level spell slots than a paladin ever could.

Amazing, one of the big reason I think Bard is the top tier class in 5e, magic secrets ability is just wonderful.

Hiya.

Ok, I've seen mention of Bards learning "paladin smite" stuff before, and do it better, than a paladin. Could somebody please enlighten me? I looked over both classes again and am just not seeing it. How?

That table is class/character level. Not spell level. The domain spells clerics get are listed in a similar confusing manor.

I presume because they have higher Charisma? But they make up for it with a lack of Str.

Sure, lets look at a 10th level bard, with magical secrets he can learn any two spells he wants, he picks the 4th level paladin smite spell "staggering smite" and the 5th level one "banishing smite". He has 3 spell slots to use on the first and 2 spell slots to fuel the second. The paladin can't do that until 19th level, in fact the paladin doesn't even get 4th level spells until 13th level.

The valor bard also gets a second attack just like the paladin, and later can even cast a spell and attack once in the same round, as far as attacking goes the bard can easily use his dexterity and smite with a rapier if he wants to focus on dex instead of strength.

Magical secrets is the best class ability in the game as it allows for early access to ranger and paladin spells long before a ranger or paladin can even get them, and eventually a bard can cast more of them in a day and as the OP pointed out can use higher spell slots than a paladin or ranger ever could. When more spells get released through splat books this is only going to get better and better.

Bard IMHO is hands down the most powerful class in the game now, being a full caster, access to any spell in the game, and can attack once and cast a spell eventually, just amazing.

I don't see how this works, since you'll get magically secrets at 6th level, when you can cast only level 3 spells, and even if you multiclass into a caster class then go 6 into bard I find the wording on Magical secrets a bit odd. It says the Bard Table, which normally wouldn't bother me, but wording has been an issue for me this edition.

At 6th level, you learn two spells of your choice from any
class. A spell you choose must be of a level you can cast,
as shown on the Bard table, or a cantrip. The chosen
spells count as bard spells for you but don’t count
against the number of bard spells you know.

That is just the College of Lore ability, which gives early access to the normal bard ability of the same name.

Any 10th level bard has magical secrets for 2 spells, gains another 2 spells of his choice at 14th, and yet another 2 spells at 18th.

So if you are a pure caster bard, go with lore and get extra spells at 6th, but if you want to be a warrior bard go with valor and start picking up paladin and ranger spells at 10th this way you also get the extra attack to use them twice a round like a paladin does.

I dumb, carry on, not sure how I missed that though.
