Try more like 1985. Nelvana was supposed to do an animated movie back in the mid-eighties before they imploded as the result of some bad movie choices (Rock and Rule was one of them IIRC).
So yeah, I'll also believe it when I see it. From what I can tell at any particular moment, pretty much anything from any source, that can be made into a movie is optioned, in development or under discussion. So unless it's got a budget, director, stars and filming is underway, it really doesn't mean anything. Hell there's plenty of films that have been finished that have sat on shelves for years. So even that doesn't guarantee anything.

Yeah, it could be tough to pull off live action. I dunno, part of me would really like to see it as traditional animation rather than CG, but those seem to be a dying breed outside of anime now a days.
