Eliminating charisma

I fudge diplomacy roles as written all over the place but I rely on my players having a basis for my ranking of there characters persuasion.

You have a charisma of X - i say without fear of contradiction. I do not enter into a completely subjective assessment of their characters.

Also, I would not want to say to my less strident players that they will always have the less charismatic characters. I'd rather the dice help them out occasionally.

I'm sorry I missed your comment about sorcerers. I think they are sort of personal ego cult type characters. Wisdom seems less personal or stamped with their own identity.

By all means try what you're discussing and let us know if it succeeds.

I'm thinking of trying a new houserule for my next game - the elimination of the charisma stat and all charisma skills. The reason behind this is that a player with a strong personality will, in almost all cases, play characters with strong personalities, and shy players almost always play shy characters, regardless of how many ranks in charisma skills the character possesses, or what their charisma score is.
I'm guessing that you normally play in 'the player plays themselves' games. So how do you treat Intelligence? Do you allow a wimp to play a high Str barbarian? So why not allow an anti-social type to play a lothario or demagogue?
