I got bit by the nostalgia bug a while back and dug this out of the closet. I'd forgotten how much damn fun it is. Of course the original release was buggy as hell but I found an absolutely amazing mod called Emperor Wars where some guy has (in addition to bugfixes and AI improvements) slowly been adding a ton of units and other stuff to basically make the game match the lore.
It's totally abandonware. I still have my old CD copy of it but unfortunately it was released in 97 so it was designed for the gong show of backwards compatibility that is Windows 95 so I need to run a ripped version that doesn't have the cutscenes or the music.
