Empire of Sand

Dihara loosens the scarf to reveal her face.

My name is Dihara - Dihara Zhoon. I'll get to the point. I need a bodyguard, someone familiar with the desert. I'm traveling to Skuld and I offer you a contract to escort me there. No, make that to escort me until my business in the city is done.

Taking in the woman's almond shaped eyes, Dihara fights back a sneer, and remembers the restrictions on non-human travel in Mulhorond.

I have papers granting passage to myself and one other unnamed escort. I'm sure it's been a while since you've seen the inside of city walls, Sehkmet.

Sekhmet thinks to herself
An escort? Well, the incessant desert _is_ getting boring. I suppose I could do with some more travel, although a filthy human city is hardly expanding my horizons. I suppose I'll agree, providing the price is right.
I just hope she doesn't expect me to risk my life for her.

Out loud:
Your escort, you say? Well, I suppose if the price is right, I could be persuaded to travel with you., she says airily.

How long would this be for?

The contract would be for the time it takes to travel from here to Skuld, and then a couple of days after we arrive in the city. I can pay you handsomely - 40 gold coins - half now and half at the end of the contract.

"I will not disappoint you."

Turning to Ihasma, Akhurauu says "It would be best to start our investigations where everything began, in the Overseer's home. We need to find out what happened, after all. We also need to talk with the guard. Maybe one of them has seen something that only makes sense in context with these events. In light of this, maybe we should talk to the guard first."

Seeing that Ihasma cannot easily keep his pace, Akhuraau walks slightly slower, but still determined. Silently, he wonders who could have murdered Tetynefer - he had no doubt that it had been murder.

First, Akhuraau will speak with the guard.

A short time after the chamberlain entered the room to speak with Officer Bak, a tall warrior followed by a smaller, somewhat nervous looking man entered the hall outside Master Tetynefer's room.

The tall warrior strode across to where Nazra stood guard. Nazra cleared his throat. "I am Nazra, one of the house guards. How may I assist you, sir?"

Nazra stood rigidly, face turned slightly to the side in a feeble attempt to hide his scars...

Dihara smiles.

Excellent! I'll show you to our wagon. We can finalize the details of the contract there.

Dihara pays Sekhmet 20gp once they are within the wagon.

"My name is Akhuraau, from the order of the Sun and the Ankh, and this is Ihasma. We would like to talk to the guards, or better with everyone who was in the house, on the grounds of the demise of the Overseer of Construction and Monuments."

Akhuraau shows Nazra the scroll with the authorization, and waits for his response.

Nazra looks over the scroll and then replies. "I am one of the guards but I can tell you very little. I was making rounds in the building and heard noises in Master Tetynefer's chamber. Once I got inside, I found him thrashing about on the floor with his hands about his throat. His face was a sickly purple and after a few moments, he stopped thrashing. He had no pulse so I immediately called Harmose, the chamberlain. That is all I can tell you."

Nazra motions to the door he is currently standing by. "The chamberlain is inside at this moment, speaking with Officer Bak of the city police."

"Poison," Ihamsa said immediately at Nazra's description of Master Tetynefer's death. "Almost certainly poison. I wonder what enemies Tetynefer had..." Ihamsa trailed off and stood there biting his nails.
