This does "d6+caster level (max +15)" to something that touches you.

If empowered, is the "caster level" part also increased?

If so, is it still limited to +15?

Just like a ray of enfeeblement, the whole thing is increased.

1.5(d6+caster level)

The description of Empower includes showing the +1 from Magic Missile being added in & increased so my interpretation:

1.5 x (d6 + Min(CasterLevel, 15) )

Thanks for the help, that looks like a great spell to empower then. Well, I guess it is 4th level though, so the Minor Metamagic Rod ain't goin to do it. :D

Agreed. My soon-to-be 12th Sorcereress plans to make use of empowered fire shield in a combat coming soon. Hopefully paired up with Stoneskin so that I can avoid being hurt so much myself while hurting them badly! (Empowered False Life is also the sorcerers friend!)

Cheers

Slightly off-topic, but how do you run Fire Shield? 1d6+caster level damage for each attack, or for each attacker (once per round)? The initial text in the spell's description gives weight to the later....

This spell wreathes you in flame and causes damage to each creature that attacks you in melee.
[From the SRD]

...but the following text (in my opinion) favors the former stance (even though it does not specifically state it).

Any creature striking you with its body or a handheld weapon deals normal damage, but at the same time the attacker takes 1d6 points of damage +1 point per caster level (maximum +15)

IMC it's per Attack, not per Round.

Damage is caused per attack. "This spell wreathes you in flame and causes damage to each creature that attacks you in melee" is flavor text and does not restrict the damage to once per attacker per round.
