EN Milestones

Man, I remember back in 1999-2000 when I must have had this conversation at least three or four times:

Some person: "Hey, have you heard about the new Dungeons and Dragons?"
Me: "Yeah, it sounds like it might be neat."
Some person: "It is! I found this great site by this Eric guy...."

So, thank you Mr. Noah!

Well, I can't really follow up on Rel's eloquence.
I was turned on to the site by Enkhidu back in late 2001/early 2002 and lurked for awhile. Started getting on and posting when the Small Beginnings Story Hour got into full swing and in the past 6-8 months I have been posting much more often. I would have to thank you most for the Story Hour forum as it has been a source of great enjoyment and has kept my friends writing as they should be.

Thanks so much and I look forward to being on ENWorld for some time to come!

I've been here since near the beginning, just not always under this name (Erok-El, Hagrid, I think there was one other... And I've been contemplating a nother change, since I always use the same alias everywhere... But anyway...) All I can say is, in echo and summary of those above me...

Dude. Rock. And Rock on.

Wow....guess I was lurking since near the beginning. Somehow, it felt like there was an established community from the get-go. And thanks. :) I'd been out of gaming for quite a while, and though I'd heard about a new edition, I wasn't really interested. Your site stoked the fires and got me back into a hobby I'd loved and lost.

I've been around in one form or another since the very early days of Eric's site. While I know I would have eventually gotten into new edition(s) of D&D, it was Eric's site that got me really wanting it.

Thanks to you, Eric, Morrus, Henry, Piratecat, Darkness, and everyone else for making this the absolute best game site on the net. It's been a wild ride over the years, but it's been fun the entire time!

I don't recall exactly how I found Eric's site, probably from one of the D&D newsgroups, but boy was I glad when I did! I lurked for years, never actually posting until Russ took it over. I used to get home from work, and first thing I'd do was log in (via dial up) and see what new rumors, news, or posts were up for the day. I think I still have some pages I printed out floating around in the game room on what was going to be in the 3e books. :) I remember printing out and bringing the pages that illustrated how attacks of opportunity worked to my first 3e game, and being glad I had them to refer to!

And now look where I am. Posting every day, driving to game days and GenCon to game with people I meet online, 2 time ENnie Awards judge, and having the time of my life!

So a big THANKS out to you Eric! :D

You have a lot to be proud of, Eric. You started something that will forever be a part of D&D lore. Did you ever think it would grow to become anything like it did?

I am proud of it, but from my side much of it appears to be a combination of luck, being in the right place at the right time (I'm thinking particularly of the Ryan Dancey OGL/d20 System interview), latching on to the right people to help with moderating, stuff like that. And no, I never had any clue about the site's success and everything it would lead to or become. By all rights, it shouldn't have succeeded. Have you seen how many RPG sites are out there gathering dust, rotting away? That's what should have happened to mine. That it didn't is a testament to how psyched people were (and still are) about D&D.

I made mistakes -- a lot of mistakes, some big, some small. I spent too much time on the site, to be honest -- my life was out of balance for those two years (my satisfaction at work was ebbing, I wasn't putting in enough time on my relationships, I wasn't exercising enough). I made errors in judgement. I burned bridges with Nutkinland -- the way I left, and the way I left things, is one of my biggest regrets and disappointments (in myself). But I am proud of the work that I did, and the way I chose to end it. And I'm so pleased that its legacy lives on that I can hardly express it.

For that you should be very proud and it is a big reason why I would be honored to make your acquaintence in person one of these years at GenCon.

Right back atcha -- and thanks for the trip down memory lane! Good times... :)

I remember finding Eric's site, during my dail-up days (using NetZero). I was on the hunt for info, concerning D&D, and EN's site filled the niche quite nicely.

Then I remember the ending, lord, it sent a shock thru my system that day. I wrote to Eric that time, and he was kind enough to response back. I wish I still had that letter, but have gone through many incarnations of the PC hood, all I have is the living memory of it being sent.

I do remember the summary of it. Eric was down to earth on his state of his mind. And I response back, you do what you have to do, to find peace. Then one day, I saw a reference about his site joining here. Or maybe it was you that made that point...yeah, I remember now, it was.

So, to be weened on D&D more, I can say it was Eric's fault;) , but the first forum experience goes to Monty's site. Then bounce to Wotc, and then here. Damn YOU ERIC, the vicious small circle that ye has enclosed upon me, never left:cool: .

But in the end, Eric survives his trails, and is still here, still loves the game (well, that depends on the level of love, the first level goes to his darling lady) still around being a pest:D , and still, very importantly...still sane.

I didn't forget what was said in that letter Eric, may not remember the deeper details, but I still have not forgotten your troubles felt during that time.

Yeah, it is a milestone.

Keep on going...keep on Going. *Points to sig at bottom*
