EN World City Project: Guilds and Organizations

GladiusNP- Care to make Reginald Oakheart an elf instead? I think we need an elven wizard in the mages guild, and he's the one that might fit best. The Lore Master would be too similar to Cor Mahael, and the conniver needs to be human to have a sufficient power base. Besides, there's something about an elven monk...

Hmmm... Archibald Oakheart, who I never explicitly said was Oakheart's brother, is the human assistant to Bartholomew Crane, a curiosity shop owner (see craft and trade thread). I could make them both elves if you'd like, though I'm not so sure that an elf would be such a burly sort of guy as Reginald. Granted, the conniver probably will work better as a human. What sort of count are we up too for wizards? I think we still have a 7th level left, and Lady Alibeth, a 4th level sorceress, is an elf. Maybe the 7th level could also be elven. In the end, I’m relaxed. I’ll leave it up to what works best for the guild.

Nope, the high-level wizard rank are all laid out already. Classifying NPCs according to their highest class, the wizards are:

9+: Cor Mahael, reclusive elven wizard
8: Lore Master (Wiz7/Lor1)
5: Conniver
5: Feshel Creek, Gnome Toymaker (Illus5)
5: Reginald Oakheart, Keeper of the Scrolls (Wiz4/Mnk1)
4: Lady Alibeth, Elven Keeper of the Gates

And the sorcerors:

9: Simon Arentinos, Justicar (Sor6/Ftr3)
8: Alestra Silvyn, Guild Mistress
7: Thora (Witch7)
5: up for grabs

Default demographics:

Sorceror, Wizard:
1x9, 1x8, 2x5, 2x4, 8x2, 16x1

We've got one too many Wiz5, but Oakheart will be multiclassed so is less effective as a Wizard, and Cor Mahael is out of the picture most of the time. We also have one too many Sor7, but she's in a similar situation as Cor Mahael: she has her own little domain outside the city walls and doesn't come into the picture unless the DM wants her to.

Could someone remind me again who Lady Alibeth is? I would prefer any extra elves to be Wizards rather than Sorcerors because of their favored class.

??????? Lore Master, Wiz7/Lor1: Just because we need at least *one* NPC with the only Wiz PrC in the SRD ;). Elderly absent-minded mage with no interest in politics. May have a line of communication with Cor Mahael (but would keep this very quiet).

I've got a writeup somewhere (ie I'll have to go look for it) on Lukatus "Enheim" Jones Director of the City Museum and Keeper of the Archives . He's a Cleric (Knowledge/Travel) Loremaster with an interest in archeology:) (not sure if I should give him proficiency with the whip too)- and a plothook to get PCs down exploring ruins and collecting artifacts...

Ah! I didn't see that he was a Loremaster as well. Not sure we need a second one then. Maybe the mages guild "lore master" could just be a Diviner specialist?

Anyone else have a good idea for a low key, elderly Wiz8?

Wow.. those Level slots go so fast... Alibeth is the other doorkeeper, along with Palorn Leviticus. She's now a wizard.

Just a heads-up that I will be out of town and away from computer access April 9-20. I'll try to update the writeup for the Mages Guild before I leave.

Meanwhile, we still have very few details about the Silker's Circle, or about the Merchants Guild(s)...

We also need to flesh out some of the lower-class but larger guilds, such as the clothing makers, grocers, builders, etc.

I was generally rambling on about something in another Mor's End thread when something came to me. Where do the Glittering Brotherhood get their sapphires? From what has been written in the geography thread, I got the impression that the sapphires are in clay - the same clay mined by the Glazer's Guild to get their pottery.

Who controls the clay mining process? I thought it was the Glazer's Guild, which mean the Glittering Brotherhood is reliant on the Glazer's Guild for their raw materials. So, it would logically follow that the Glittering Brotherhood is a subsidiary of the Glazer's Guild.

Then I thought, maybe it's not. Maybe, at one time, all of the Glittering Brotherhood Jewelers did work under the Glazer's Guild, and they did have to kow-tow to what the Glazer's Guildmasters said. Until they all stuck together, pulled out, and formed their own Guild. It was difficult, since they had to import sapphires to cut, which were of an inferior grade. But the Glazer's Guild lost the required labour to cut their stones, leaving them with a buch of funny coloured rocks....

Well, what do people think? Is this worth adding? Do we want tension between the Glittering Brotherhood and the Glazer's Guild? Even though they are reliant on each other? Makes for all sorts of interesting nuances to Council Politics.

Byzantine? Child's Play. Machiavelli? Amateur. Mor's End politics define cutthroat. :D
