EN World City Project: NPC Submissions

Rogue is the Bugbears' favored class so I went with the Rog1/War2. Changed the discription too.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hoppy doesn't remember life before Thora found him wandering in the swamp, he had been injured in a raid on the town and had no memories of his previous life. Thora nursed him back to health and gave him a new name, "Hoppy" for the odd way he walked through the swamp trying not to sink. That was five years ago, he is completly devoted to Thora as she is all he knows, he gladly does any task she ask and sees no diference between killing a man and carrying her landry basket. Rumor in town is that there is a reason the Bugbear never got his memory back and that Thora used her magic on him to gain his services.

Concentration +6

Let me guess... randomly generated? ;)

Hmm... Somehow, "Hoppy" doesn't seem to fit the image I had in mind for Thora's cohort. He just seems too smart and... well... too gentle.

Know what? I'm going to raise Thora to Witch7 for that little bit of extra nastyness. Let's see... add Alter Self and Contagion... yes, I believe that will do nicely for a witch. :D

That also means she can have a 6th level cohort, which will be... an Ogre Ftr1! Now that's more like it. Big, stupid and *really* scary. Think I'll give him a Huge spiked chain (anchor chain perhaps? reach 5-20) for additional whoopass.

Give the Pipes of the Sewers to Thora, give the ogre a bunch of Thora's potions... I think we might have something here.

We can still keep Bugbear Hoppy as one of the inhabitants of the Squats. Heck, he could be one of Pommy Muckracker's "employees", or perhaps a mercenary.

I'll post updated stats sometime tomorrow. Gotta catch some Zs now...

Fixed concentration on sheet. He'd probably be better used as a menial servant than a actual cohort. He really is just a thrall, most likely there are several layers of spells keeping him from becoming a homocidal killing machine. A good plot hook would be that Hoppy got loose of the spells and went on a rampage. (like this:)

True history of Hoppy the Bugbear. (Plot Hook)
Hoppy's real name is Ta'kir'uk, he is a vile killing machine who was specially trained to lead a warparty against Mor's End. Ta'kir'uk led a party of over 50 goblins against the city and was in the process of setting fire to the squats when the Witch Thora cast her spells on him. The wounds he took in the battle were not from the town guard but from when Thora caused him to turn on his goblin hoard. Ta'kir'uk is a true decendant of the Bugbear lords of the old Goblinoid Kingdom, he blames Mor's End for the destruction of the kingdom (rightly so) and was trained from birth to lead warparties and raids against the hated city of men and Dwarves. If he were ever to regain himself then he would not be able to carry the burden of 5 years of being used to carry laundry and as a mount for a old lady, most likely he would snap and rampage through the squats. Hoppy is like a time bomb waiting to go off and nobody but the Witch Thora is keeping him in check.

Saul Antilium

Sir Saul is a knight who belongs to the city guard. Despite his rather strict morals, and reserved nature, Saul is very courteous, well-mannered, and pleasant and therefore he is much respected among the rank and file of the guardsmen. He is still young, but has seen the coming and going of the prior Lord Commander, and was actually the man who brought the evidence used in the dismissal hearings to Lady Kelvin. Due to this, he is somewhat untouchable – though he’s proved inconvenient to both Palmora and Halgan at times.

Needless to say, Antilium has an iron sense of justice. He would never stoop to bribery, and holds himself aloof from the power struggle between Thomas Haljan and Sebastiano Palmora. He also holds himself aloof from the other Watch-Captains, who know very little of him. He considers protecting Mor’s End his duty, and any threat, internal or external, should be dealt with ruthlessly. He also has a keen competitive spirit – though not with dice or cards. He is an excellent boxer, though he seldom is seen doing so, and once knocked out Gorkil himself in a friendly match (regulars vs. elites).

That said, Antilium also has a sense of compassion. He often spends long hours teaching young guardsmen, and teenagers in the Muster, swordplay, and archery (though Baltus Starkad is a much better shot) and often tries to get Ulfgar to come give lessons to ‘the regulars.’ He is known for his generosity as well, though he never loans money, only making gifts. He is also a firm believer in the god of justice/protection. He never misses a service, and spends an hour each morning at his devotions. He also regularly takes a vow of fasting, going up to two days without eating.

Antilium is a broad-shouldered man, with closely cut black hair, clean-shaven, and with a muscular look about him. He usually wears a Guards’ surcoat, over a well made suit of polished steel half-plate, which has religious icons inscribed upon it. He usually wears his sword on his right side, and a shield over his right shoulder (he’s left handed). He is most likely to be found on duty at the Southern Gate, captaining the guard contingent there. He is usually checking passes, talking to merchants, etc. himself, vigilant against any sort of threat to the city. He is also very careful about searching for smuggled goods, and has found more contraband than any other guard captain. His men usually let him deal with people – he’s courteous and polite to a fault.

Saul’s squad. Shelly Anderson (Human F, War1), Jacob Gearson (Human M, War 1) Arnold Rivetul, (Human M, War 2), Nelim Sevdodle (Gnome M, War 1/ Ill 1), Tatiana Vladmin (Human F, Bar 3), and Kirk Amondal (Human M, War 1)

Saul Antilium: Male Human, Pal5; HD 5d10+10; hp 42; Init +1; Spd 20; AC 20; Atk +8 base melee, +6 base ranged; +9 (1d10+4, Bastard Sword +1 [Arm of Justice]); SQ: Lay on hands (15/day), Detect Evil, Divine Grace, Divine Health, Aura of Courage, Smite Evil (+8), Remove Disease, Turn Undead; AL LG; SV Fort +9, Ref +5, Will +6; STR 17, DEX 12, CON 15, INT 14, WIS 15, CHA 17.
Skills: Search +6, Diplomacy +11, Heal +10, Concentration +10, Ride +9.
Feats: Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Bastard Sword), Weapon Focus (Bastard Sword), Improved Unarmed Strike.
Possessions: Half-plate with holy symbols, large steel shield with argent sigil of Mor’s End on a white field.

Weapons: +1 Bastard Sword. Saul was given this sword by the Lady Kelvin herself, in reward for his exemplary service (namely breaking the corruption ring). It is a weapon from Kul Moren, made only a few years ago by the dwarf smiths who live there. Enchanted by the Wizard’s Guild, Saul has named the blade ‘Arm of Justice.’

It is a beautiful weapon, with a hint of blue in the steel of the blade. The handle is silver, with white ivory forming the grip, and a simple pommel of steel, worked in the shape of a fist. In the centre of the crossguard, the sigil of Mor’s End is stamped into the metal, and underneath is inscribed the motto, “For I shall be the arm of justice.”

Spells - Bless, Protection from evil.

Plot Hooks – 1. Saul has just gotten in the way one too many times. The Black Hand traders decide to take him out once and for all, sending an assassin to kill Saul. Word gets out, and Lady Kelvin hires the party to protect Saul until Bolius Chier can find the assassin. Saul however, doesn’t want to lay low. Can the party protect him from himself?

2. Saul gets into a boxing match with one of the PC’s, due to a wager made by the PC’s patron vs. Haljan about who has the better fighter. Might work well for a monk.

3. Tomas Palmora is being investigated for smuggling (credit to Tonguez) and Saul believes that Sebastiano isn’t doing enough. Who do the PC’s believe? The Guard’s Commander, or the Watch-Captain? What will they do? Is Tomas really guilty?

Multi-class (how are these going to be handled?)
I've been classifying them by their highest class level for demographics purposes. So Willie Enderton, Com2/Exp10, would count as an Exp12 for demographics, and should probably be head of whatever Guild he belongs to!

(Oh, and please list Conaill U'Ciaran "tavernkeeper", or "retired adventurer". Flibbert does all the actual barkeeping...)

Good work, GladiusNP! Nice to see we're heading in the right direction...

jdavis (and anyone archiving the NPCs here...). please note that I just upgraded Thora to Witch7.

Here's my suggested stats for her cohort, as an alternative to Hoppy. I appreciate all the work you've done on Hoppy, but I just felt I needed something a little more nasty and brutish to match the image I had in my mind. If you want, we can still swap in most of Hoppy's background, or we can simply set them both loose on Mor's End! ;) Do let me know whivh way you would prefer...

Gra'ul, male ogre Ftr1: CR 3; ECL 6; Large Giant; HD 4d8+1d10+15; hp 39; Init +2; Spd 40 ft; AC 19 (-1 size, +5 natural, +3 hide, +2 Dex); Melee Huge spiked chain +8 (2d6+7, reach 5'-20'), Huge greatclub (2d6+5); or Huge longspear (2d6+5, reach 15'-20'); AL N; SV Fort +9, Ref +3, Will +1; Str 21, Dex 14, Con 16, Int 6, Wis 10, Cha 7.

Skills and Feats: Climb +2, Heal +1, Intimidate +10 (based On Str), Jump +2, Listen +4, Move Silently -1, Spot 0; Combat Reflexes, Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Spiked Chain), Weapon Focus (Spiked Chain).

Equipment: Hide armor (Large), Spiked Chain (Huge), Potions: 2xCLW, Alter Self, Invisibility, Endure Elements.

Gra'ul lumbers around with an anchor chain wrapped around his neck, which he uses as a devastating weapon. One end of the chain still has a small anchor attached to it, at the other end he has twisted two crowbars through the links. If he looses this weapon, he will simply rip a pole or tree trunk out of the ground and use that as a club/greatclub/Huge greatclub.
