En Worlders from Austin TX

And Great Hall Games in the Dobie at UT. Best place to find minis in the city. Especially modern/wargame minis.
Is this new? Last time I was in Dobie, the only gaming-related store was a comic book shop with a small selection of RPGs, mostly WotC stuff. I always thought that a gaming store in Dobie would be a natural.

Barton Springs is nice to swim in (it's a naturally heated stream near or in Zilker Park).

Are we thinking of the same springs? It's freezing cold!! (which comes in handy in TX.) :p

Yeah, last time I was at Barton Springs, they certainly weren't heated, naturally or otherwise.

Kent, I didn't know you used to live in Texas!

Don't forget the bat bridge! Quite a site to see 2 million bats come out of the congress avenue bridge at sunset! Of course if you are coming in the late fall they might have migrated down to Mexico for the winter by then.

There's fantastic cuisine of every stripe and taste all over town. And lots of great music. On the weekends its hard to find a bar or a restaurant without a great live band or just a singer playing guitar. My favorite Mexican place, El Gallo down on south Congress ave, even has old timey Mariachis that will serenade you and some of the best dang enchiladas you will ever eat.

Also check out all the Half-Price books locations for great used gaming books and accessories. You're sure to find some treasures.

Austin's a great town! You're sure to have a blast if you visit!

That'd likely have been Leslie, one of the...ah...'local personalities'. A fixture, if you will. A very scary fixture for some. ;)

And Funky...you don't play d20? I'm shocked! Shocked and appalled! ;) You know we like you anyways. :D

Well, considering that Austin just happens to be the home of Steve Jackson Games, I do have to wonder how much of a GURPS-based fan base there is up there.

And, not to mention Origin games (which used to be good, IMHO, pre-EA-ownership).

>>TB, if you're going to be in Austin for a month, maybe someone can organize a small game day/gaming get together? Or maybe even just a get together for some good Tex-Mex. I live an hour north of Austin and would be able to drive down on the weekend.>>

Dang, this IS a small world! I'm in Round Rock (Austin suburb to all you not Texans) but I'm from Temple originally. I also spent a year and a half in college station!

Freebirds started in College Station, oddly enough, but made the jump to Austin seamlessly. The other restaurants all named are worth pursuing. If you don't mind spending a little more, Z Tejas Grill is WELL worth exploring, too.
