Encounter and Daily powers in Skill Challenges

How do these type of powers (Encounter and/or Daily) work in a skill challenge?

The skill challenge says that it some instances checks may represent hours or even days (particulary for something like a Lost in the Wild type challenge or a long-term negoitiation).

The Warlock has a power that gives him a +5 Bonus 1/Encounter.

The phb, however, does describe that once per encounter REALLY means once every 5 minutes.

SO... If the PCs are engaged in a day long SKill Challenge (let's say a trial). And the DM is having the PCs make a check "each hour." Would the warlock be able to use his +5 Bonus once? Or could he take a short rest between each check and have a +5 each time he made a check.

Let's say in this example the party also has a paladin. The Paladin has a daily power, Astral Voice, which gives her a +5 Bonus to Diplomacy for the entire encounter. Again, phb, states that an encounter is really 5 minutes. Now obviously this paladin can't take a 6 hour nap during the trial, so they wouldn't get to recharge their Astral Voice. But each check is an hour apart. Would the Paladin get to use her +5 for the whole encounter (even though it might last hours), or for just one check?

This would be really ironic to me.. because in this case the Warlock's +5 Bonus ONCE per encounter would actually apply across the entire encounter. While the Paladin's +5 for the ENTIRE encounter would only apply to one roll.

They work the way they seem to work. Five minutes rest and encounters can be used again. What counts as a "rest" is up to the DM.

If my players were in a situation like a six hour trial where they can rest for five minutes all the time, but they can't sleep, I'd just wing it. I wouldn't look for precise rules to cover those situations.

encounter

If skill challenges are always defined as Encounters, you may not rest during them. After all, a 5 minute rest in a marathon could cost you the prize.

mm, marathon: endurance, plus nature checks to give bonuses, maybe athletics/acrobatics checks if more of an obstacle course. Yummy.
