I don't have my 3.0 books anymore. I know there were rules in the DMG for determining an ecounter distance based on spot checks. For the life of me, I can't find them in the 3.5 rulebook. Can anyone help me out?
I believe that in the 3.5e DMG, they folded those rules into the chapter that covers various terrains. At least, I noticed that each terrain listed the encounter distances (NdM x Y feet).
Yes, I noticed that too, but I know there were other rules covering encouter distance. Maybe WotC decided to let encouter distance be subject to more DM interpretation, but that isn't really their style.
Alright, I paged through the entire 3.5 DMG. I'm convinced that they didn't include the rules. Sure, there are spot distances listed with each terrain type, but the other rules are not there.
