Encounter - good ally for some ogres?

Hmm and here I thought that they were called "Oh noes!" well at least that's what my players called them...
well, the ogres gave my players a pretty good scare. I was surprised, as they're level 8 and I gave them a level 9 and 10 encounter back to back with ogres and I really stretched them with it. They usually need something a bit tougher than that to challenge them.
And, I didn't roll well, and when I did hit, some of my damage rolls were only so-so. (2d8 gave me a "4" two times.)

Kinda always were, but yes they are now listed as Oni in the MMs. Nice monsters.
I particularly like the Oni Mage for some reason. Typically under damage for an MM1 but easily fixed.

Can to share your encounter composition?
The first encounter was with a bugbear, as hinted at above. However, I changed him around a bit to make him an Elite Soldier. He was aided by 2 ogre cave lurkers. Each one also had a "pet" worg, as I liked the worg's aura...
The second wave was led by an ogre storm shaman, supported by pairs of ogre savages, ironclads, thugs and mercenaries.
The party spent all their personal dailies except one.
