D&D 5E Encounters and NPC/Monster Strategy Thread

Endangering an npc is always a great way to create suspense. I once had the players deal with escaped monsters in a mage tower, which revolve around not only defeating the unleashed magical creatures, but also defending an innocent level 1 mage apprentice.

An upcoming EN5ider article might just help to add a little something to an encounter on the fly. Just saying... I hope people dig it when it arrives, but obviously can't say a lot now. Just saw this thread title and actually thought it could be about the article. It is slightly different, as this is more tactics. Article is more about what the creatures are doing when encountered, but there can be some crossover there
