Enemy Among Us (DM: Stringbean2142, Judge: TwoHeadsBarking)

When Veruzak was comfortable, and Bell felt they were in private, he began. Bell, I have reason to believe you are born of my people.

The wizard waits before continuing, watching in case the young lass goes into shock.

Bell starred at the wizard slack jawed for a moment. I can't believe this. Maybe the tentacles damaged his mind. . . further. . .

"Veruzak, I'm totally fey blooded. I told you that. . like. . . thirty-six seconds into the adventure."

The eladrin is taken aback for a moment, until Bell remarks on her fey blood and finishes her sentence. Carefully Veruzak weighed his words, Affirmative, but you were mistaken. The Eladrin are not my people, nor are they yours. The Shadar-kai are. You Bell, are Shadar-kai, my people. Those who raised me, and whom I claim, are your birthright. Be proud. Veruzak opens his arms wide, inviting Bell to embrace.

Oh no. . . he's the villain that pretends to be a hero. Bell eyed Veruzak very carefully and took two steps back from his uplifted arms. She had never noticed how horrifyingly gaunt he was before.

"That's not true. Shadar-kai are . . . bad guys." In a way though it all made sense. It could be possible. No. No I would know. . .

Veruzak hadn't expected this, he expected glee, some jubilation, but not this... I'm disappointed you feel that way.

His arms lower slowly, as does his head. *If only I could show her heritage, how her people had arisen, through the fog and dust of death-ridden mediocracy, to heights unknown in this realm. Surviving, nay, thriving in conditions that no other mortals can bear.* The shadar-kai raised eladrin felt dejected, he turned away from Bell, wishing he could be a better example of their people.

None-the-less. is all Veruzak says.

He stands for a moment, mind blank from emotion. Only for a moment though, as his secondary track of thought would not allow dalliances, *Should get back to finding a safe place for the Igors new spare parts. They deserve quality pieces that haven't been nibbled on by spiders. Got to pick up cloth for the grade bands as well, need special ink for the secret messages that need to go out. Registry needs updated and this house must be filed with both the local Haurton officia...* Veruzak stood, stewing in his machinations, waiting to be left alone, again, on this plane.

Bell took another two quick steps back, but as soon as Veruzak's back was fully turned she sprinted back round to the other end of the house. Rushing up to Atlas, she hurriedly motioned for him to bend down and then whispered.

"Veruzak's working for the bad guys."

Atlas is stunned by this piece of news and gently grabs her shoulders with his hands " What do you mean Bell, is he an agent for the beast that is cause for all these problems " he asks seriously.

Veruzak brings himself together, refocusing on the task at hand. The deep orchid robes swishing as he rounds the building. He walks toward Martelai, Shall we move these spare parts into the house? There must be one room we could secure.

"It's possible." She conceded, the thought had passed her mind though she doubted it. More likely this is a prelude to a deception further into our careers. Bell sees Veruzak come round the corner again and so keeps her voice limited to a hushed whisper.

"He admitted to be working for the shadar-kai and tried to get me to join them."

" Very well young one " he continues to whisper to her with a grim face" I do not know these shadar-kai but I shall keep an close eye on Veruzak. Remember Bell, one must always give creatures benefit of the doubt, things are simply not always as they seem " and he takes a quick look towards Veruzak " Don't worry Bell, should he be working with the enemy it is better to keep him close, we might be able to learn something from him " the statue looks back at Bell as if he has got an idea " I know it is much to ask, but if we want to get to the bottom of this, perhaps you should play along. Get Veruzak to open up to you, get his guards down and perhaps then he will reveal something of importance, connecting him to The Enemy. What do you say little one, are you up for the challenge?"

"Could you please not reffer to them as spare parts. I understand that they may be mindless irreparably, but it's still wrong. Besides, how will you guard them? We need to go back to town for more information, for secure shelter and healer for the people and for cages for the beasts. And they are secured now, moving can wait until we decide what to do next, can't it?"

Despite his words he follows older fey to see if he needs help. As they get closer he asks quietly:
Is Bell a member too?"
