"Well we need to go town regardless. I'll carry you're share of the treasure Atlas so you can carry bodies. We should let the herbalist have a go if only to let the locals feel confident we tried everything."

" Thank you little softskin "
says the marble statue with a smile as he hands Bell his share of the treasure.

I don't think Atlas alone can carry everyone. Or, for that matter, Catein and Atlas together. Maybe we could improvise some kind of strecher or sled with this table?"
At first Atlas looks a bit insulted by Martelai's lack of faith in him, since he as Bell had pictured six people and two dogs to be an easy feat to carry but he realizes that he can't argue with him either, after all how in the world is he going to carry so many creatures at once " It certainly will be quicker if we do so "

ScorpiusRisk said:
"That may be too much for the table as well. We don't want to stack them. Still I think the table is a good idea. Perhaps two trips. Mr Atlas, Mr Kent and Catein shall take half of them into town, while we wait here. Then we shall all proceed with the rest."

Bell pulled a sheet from the bed, flipped the table over and began attaching it to the bottom.
Atlas helps the little one turn the table and fetches three people and a dog. " Let's see if this will work. Kendrick or Catein, could one of you assist me " and he lifts the homemade stretcher along with whomever helps him.

Great idea Bell! Local persons checking the bodies will be great for the towns moral, when they say "sorry there is nothing we can do", the IAC can offer to take the burden for the townsfolk, how considerate! I'm feeling dizzy...
The earth genasi sends Veruzak a grim look and considers if he should throw him into the basement and lock him inside there but somehow he resists the temptation " How many times do you need me to remind you that there is still a possibility to save them! " he snaps. " If it is impossible to bring them back, do you really think these people will just let you wander away with their loved ones?! I think not!"

Did anyone claim the chainmail?

And what does the DM think about CaBaNa's suggestion of a little skill challenge if we can save the victims?

[sblock=regarding skill challenges]Sure. Are you all going to be working to the same end, or is it going to be a "can Bell and her friends save the quasi-innocent bystanders from being lobotomized by Veruzak" sort of thing?[/sblock]

Proud that Atlas likes her idea, Bell ignores the relatively sound reasoning that two trips is unnecessary. She smiles happily as Atlas loads up the table.

[sblock=Skill Challenge]I didn't quite have that in mind but some kind of versus skill challenge might be fun. I'm not quite sure how you would do it.[/sblock]

A slender Eladrin right hand, reached into an orchid robe, stopping wrist deep behind the smoky pink accented trim. After a short pause, it withdraws from the folds of cloth, bereft of any tangible item. The left hand quickly tucks away the empty pipe it had been cradling.

Would it be preposterous to believe you valiant hero's would return IAC property to the scene of this unforeseen, and regrettable arcane disturbance site? Though I personally will not be examining this incident further, The... What's the word...? Ah, The Altruistic nature of our organization, requires further investigation by other members, with the intention of preventing further regrettable arcane disturbances. It's for the safety of the public! Travesty's such as this will be prevented by the concentrated efforts of the IAC. Veruzak swells, some of the color returns to his already pale complexion. He confidently swings open the cellar, and begins collecting the specimen he'd restrained, smiling all the while.

Returning to the group he sets the bundled evidence to be packed with the rest of the haul. Yes Atlas, "these people" of the fine Isle of Huarton, will be comforted, knowing their zombified family members, will be helping prevent future Psychiggot attacks via their heroic sacrifice. I have utmost confidence our expert research team, with the donation of these two arcane disturbance sites, and the tragically effected loved ones, can create an early warning system to prevent such heinous loss of life in the future. What more noble cause in death could their families wish for. Veruzak has no hint of sarcasm or feigned care, just cool steady logic. The bodies were tools to prevent negative arcane press, which meant saving lives in case of Psychiggot infestation.

Love to watch a "can Bell and her friends save the quasi-innocent bystanders from being lobotomized by Veruzak" sort of thing?" unfold.

[sblock=spoiler for THB]

[sblock=well maybe a spoiler...]

[sblock=ok so it's just an idea]

I've done an opposed skill challenge before in a RL game I DMed. It went well, this is what I did;

The PC's rolled opposing checks, both had a regular skill challenge difficulty. The twist, I raised all DCs by 2, to represent non-cooperation.

If either PC beat the DC it counted as a success for the party. The PC who had the most success' during the challenge won. If the skill challenge was successfully completed...

So the group works together to complete the challenge i.e. Everyone wants to preserve and keep the bodies working. Group win, or group fail.

Something like, Bell's side made 5 successful rolls, to Veruzak's side only having 3, the people would be saved. If Veruzak's side made 5 successful rolls, to Bell's side only having 3, the people would be useful as self sustaining organ donors.

If Bell's Side and Veruzak's side made X successes, but need Y, and had N failures (N being their quota), then the people would be worthless as organ donors, and remain non-sentient.

Thoughts? I'd be interested in improving this for future games.

Martelai takes time catching Bell in all that shuffling around alone for the moment.

"Bell, a moment please. I know you want to save these poor souls and believe or not, so do I. But you have to consider the chance there is nothing we can do to restore them. What then? What if their families give up on them? Think on this. Would you make the killing blow? And Veruzak can later speak with the families without your presence to temper it. Don't alienate him too much."

He also helps Veruzak on his errand, binding and collecting specimens, organizing them and carrying to the basement.

"Veruzak, a moment if you please. Bell and Atlas are quite adamant in their insistence to help these people. I would like to try also, I trust Atlas when he says they are not braindead, if we take them without trying to restore them we can as well try and take homeless, helpless people off the streets for Igors. And I myself would hate to see opportunity to study effect of these creatures go to waste. Could you play along for a while, we can later speak with Yurian and the families if we are unable to restore them. Nice public relations speech before."

OOC: Martelai would play on both sides of the challenge, he wants to help IAC, but wants to make sure the bodies are really empty. Go, go, high social skills :)

Martelai! Homeless are not brain-dead, and I assure you these people are. I'll help in whatever capacity I can, for you. Restoring these people will simply mean longer-life-spans for brain-dead bodies, which serves the Igors just fine. If we pull off some miracle, so be it. All the better for the IAC's publicity. Veruzak is confident that no one kept their sanity after the attacks, but he was sincere in his resolve to assist Martelai in pulling off a miracle. Let's go play God! beamed the tattooed Eladrin.

-''Oh, that's okay. I can make the killing blow if it comes to that. It'll be my contribution.''

Sorry, Mal, the idea was that he's speaking wiht her ALONE. Unless you have very good hearing of course :)
