Enervation

Darmanicus

I'm Ray...of Enfeeblement
Just a quickie......

So the spell hammers skill checks, attack rolls etc. however does the spells lost = the amount of levels lost also?

I have a feeling however that the answer to that is no. :(

Cheers.

Yes, if you get 3 negative levels from Enervation you lose your 3 highest level spells available.

Enervation sucks hard if you are a caster.

And remember, ennervation stacks with itself! Yay for killing high level anything with Ennervation Volleys!

A trick I'm looking forward to with my 14th level sorcerer. He just got Enervation, and has the Split Ray feat. He can now emulate a 9th level spell with a 6th level spell slot. :]

Be sure to have fun with:

Maximized Split Enervation for 8 negaive levels
Which translates into:
-40hp,
-8 on attack rolls, saving throws, skill checks, ability checks, and caster level
losing the 8 highest level prepared spells/spell slots

not bad as a 9th level spell, right?

And remember, 5th is the minimum caster level for a wizard to cast Fireball.

If you can drop his effective caster level below 5, in addition to losing one spell or spell slot from his or her highest available level for each negative level, you've also dropped his caster level below the minimum caster level for a wizard to cast Fireball...

Music to my Necromantic ears guys :D You truly rock!!!

I'm a 9th specialist Necromancer atm and have had Enervation for 1 or 2 levels now but have only used it once I think against some big fighter type.

This is truly great news and it's sure to get better!

Split Ray would be awesome and is something I have been thinking about for a while however anything non-core has to be made known to our DM well in advance, (I'd like to say he gets confused with all the non-core stuff and it would be true however I'd then have to admit that I do too so I'll drop that comment right there). It's definitely something I am going to propose though in the near future since I have several ray attacks as my main offence.

Getting a crit I should imagine just makes the effect obscene? Sadly I have yet to score one :(

Long term goals maybe.......

1. Learn Empower Spell.
2. Become an Archmage and make Empowered Enervation into spell like ab 4/day.
3. Learn Maximize Spell Like Ab.

Worth it? I'm not sure yet but it sounds like fun.......and it's a virtual guaranteed hit with a quickened True Strike beforehand ;)

Geez, I just looked.......

Just apply Empower and Split to the Archmage, High Arcana: Spell Like Ab at its base and you sacrifice a 5th and 8th slot permanently........add the Max Spell Like Ab and that's truly sick!!!

Am I missing something?

Cheers guys :D

And makes wights super cheap! At least if they read http://www.d20srd.org/srd/specialAbilities.htm#energyDrainAndNegativeLevels the same way I do.

A character with negative levels at least equal to her current level, or drained below 1st level, is instantly slain. Depending on the creature that killed her, she may rise the next night as a monster of that kind. If not, she rises as a wight.

Unfortunately, this is one of my Living Greyhawk characters, and retirement is now 16th level. So I've only got the rest of level 14 and 15 to play around with him.

He has Rapid Metamagic, and at level 15 he will be taking quicken spell, so I can drop a Split-Ray Enervation followed by a Quickened Empowered Ray of Enfeeblement if I so desire.

Then Web and walk away.

Add in Easy Metamagic (Split Ray) and it's a 5th level spell (Split Enervation).

Which means you can cast Maximized Split Enervation at level 15, as a level 8 spell.

---

Wait... then a 15th level wizard that hits a 15th level wizard with Maximized Split Enervation effectively reduces the victim's casting ability to casting 4th level spells (Caster Level 8), therefore only needing Globe of Invulnerability to be completly immune to the enemy... nice
