Actually, having had the pleasure of editing the upcoming
Creatures of the Dreamseed book for
Engel, I'd have to say I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the setting. Let me also say that I was, admittedly, fairly sceptical at first, as the whole "angels fighting demons in the dark future" seemed pretty cliched and... hmmm.... I don't know -- juvenile? Puerile? Cheesy?
But having worked closely on the stuff now, I can honestly say that I'd really enjoy playing in an
Engel game. I'd probably want to play in a party of humans, though, rather than a flight of Engel, just 'cause it would be more interesting to me personally. YMMV. It's quite fascinating, actually, and there's a lot more depth to the game and the setting than you might think, even after having read the page at S&SS. It's pretty gritty, and it's not, despite what you may be tempted to think, all about superpowers and uber-factoring (a.k.a. "munchkinism"). Lots of good rp potential.
And the Dreamseed book, at least, is pretty much all in first-person narrative; quite an interesting read.
Just give the game a try before you slam it.
