ENnies - let's launch the voting booth!

On a side note, it seems to me that some vindictive folks could vote their favorite a '10', and then slap '1's into all the other candidates, thus skewing the results. Hopefully, people will be honest, but we'll see, I suppose.

We already had this discussion in another thread. The response was a shrug and a smile. :)

Not true - the result was that certain voting patterns will be discarded.

Hope I haven't bored everyone to tears. Thanks for bearing with my pedantry.

Actually, that was very interesting.

If you don't mind me picking your brains a little further - what, specifically, would you suggest we do with the figures we have? Bear in mind that we're already doing two of the things your suggested (removal of obviously biased voting patterns and cut-off levels for minimum numbers of votes).

I'd be interested in seeing the exact formula you would apply to the info we have. We know each individual vote, we know the number of votes for any given product, and we know the average score (the mean in this case). I'd imagine that Blacksway could easily run the numbers through a different calculation routine if it were explained simply, step-by-step.

Ok im the only person that uses my computer and I log on this morning to find to my glee that I can now vote for the ENnies!

however quickly to my dismay as I wat for the voting page to come up i get:

You are not able to vote
Our records show that you may have already voted and we unfortunately cannot allow you to proceed.

We apologise if this is not the case - it may be that you share a computer or a network with somebody who has already voted. We have chosen to take the "better safe than sorry" route with regards to security.

Back to EN World.

I am fairly vexed at this as I greatly want to vote and know I havent yet. so im wondering how it could say I have when I havent.

*note im not sharing a network with anyone its a home computer. I am on shaw but no one else I know whos on shaw has had any problems*

Good to see you guys avoided the noid. I was about half way through and realized that if I put ones in the "not my favorite" slot it would lower their score. Tempting but I passed (seems petty to me) but then I began to worry about others doing the same.

I immediatley rushed to the boards and started to post a topic when I thought "Hey, wait a minute. I bet someone has already thought of this."

I can now sleep easy knowing that Morris is on it and that Olgar has a big brain. :D

I also cannot vote. I'm the only one that uses my computer, but since I am at work at a big company that uses dynamic IP, I suppose it is possible that somehow someone at my company has voted and it is keeping me from voting (but I don't know what security you are using). I'll try from home, but I hope I get to vote. I've lurked here everyday (almost) since the site was launched.

Morrus, this is no complaint. I think security is the right thing, just venting some diappointment I guess. Plus, this bumps the thread back to the top.

One more thing, while I'm no stats genius, I agree with the person that made suggestions on normalizing the votes. I administer and analyze customer satisfaction surveys. You'd be amazed at how people want to "average" a scale that doesn't even have numbers! You know, 1=very dissatisfied, 5= very satisfied. then people want me to report the "average" score, as if there is an average between those that can be represented by a number! Sorry, more venting.
