[ENnies] WotC on the outs

So what is the deal with WotC's poor showing in the ENnies? Only three nominations and one "silver" win in a minor category.

Is WotC that bad or isit just in vogue to discount them? It seems there is a growing anti-WotC bias in this community. The ENnies seem to indicate that perception is true. WotC is obviously not a favored RPG producer this year.

I, for one, usually hold WotC's products above most all 3rd party products....but this past year, the 3rd party companies cranked out some VERY VERY good stuff. WotC still had great stuff, but I really think that it wasn't enough to match the amount of great 3rd party stuff.

And anyway...I kind of think its better to recognize 'smaller' 3rd party companies in the Ennies. :)

WotC will have some potential winners coming out over the next year. I'll be interested to see if Draconomicon and Unearthed Arcana can compete for an award in 2004.

I'm sure Monte Cook's Arcana Unearthed (and related products) will also do well next year, considering the conversations here on the messageboards.

Due to the way some the categories were re-defined since last year, WotC wasn't eligible to enter certain categories where they might have otherwise done strongly.

WotC hasn't put out any must haves this year, IMO. Oriental Adventures and Manual of the Planes were absolutely incredible books that WotC has yet to match, for one thing.

I liked Fiend Folio as much as I have liked any rpg book I have ever bought. And my game wouldn't be the same without the BoVD.

I'd put them up there with OA and MotP myself.
