Entangle Question

Maybe Burning Hands is a transmutation spell because it changes you so you have the ability to shoot fire from your hands? (I know, I know, it doesn't target you so that's not the case, but that's how it'll work in my game so the Transmutation school isn't completely wonked).

Given that Transmutation is already the most powerful school around, and that direct damage isn't its "schtick" in the first place, losing Burning Hands probably wouldn't cut down on the number of Transmuters out there significantly.

I'll take your word on it :) I've never had anyone play a specialist mage (other than a gnome illusionist) so I don't really have a good sense of which schools are more powerful than the others.

No need, IceBear -- didn't you see on the previous page, where Burning Hands was errataed to be an evocation spell?

Although I gotta say, it would be cool to rename the spell Burning Blood, and make it a transmutation spell with that effect: for a brief second, it turns your blood into magma that sprays out of your fingertips, causing you immense pain but causing your opponents even worse pain. Purely a flavor change, except that now burning hands has target (self) and is a legit transmutation spell.

So could a druid just throw a Quaal's feather token (tree) and *then* cast Entangle? :D And if so, would everyone in the entire Entangle area be affected? Sounds like a reasonable tactic for a dungeon crawl...

Haste. Fly. All the Buff spells. All the Polymorph spells. All the Teleport spells. Time Stop. Disintegrate. Flesh to Stone. All the Planar Shifting spells except Gate. Telekinesis.

Oh, he's definitely telling the truth. All the stat-enhancing second-level spells; haste; fly; polymorph self and other; enlarge (nice because it's one of the few non-enhancement stat bonuses and thereby stacks with other stat bonuses); alter self; blindness/deafness; slow; gaseous form; magic weapon and GMW; dimension door, teleport, and teleport without error; telekinesis; disintegrate; flesh to stone and vice versa; plane shift; iron body; and shapechange, to name some of the more popular spells in the school. It's got a fantastic versatility, including attack spells with will and fort saves (no dex saves that I see -- interesting), and the best buffing spells of any school, as well as a variety of utility spells. I've seen more transmuters than any other specialty class. They're damned good.

That's why I told Hypersmurf I was gonna kick his butt when he started whinging about nerfing the school. I think I was about as serious as he was :).

Oh I missed that...well, I read it quickly and thought that you said you were going to errata it that way (ie Rule 0 it) :)

That's right... Pielorinho Rule 0ed it, then decided it was such a good Rule 0, he'd declare it official errata.

One day WotC will notice this thread, and send out a letter to everyone with a PHB confirming the change.
