Enterprise - First Flight

Stunned by the death of a former Starfleet rival (Keith Carradine), Archer grudgingly recalls their competitive relationship to T'Pol as they probe a nebula during a shuttle voyage.

- AND -

Enterprise - Bounty

A crafty Tellarite tricks Archer into boarding his ship to collect a bounty from the Klingons; T'Pol's mating cycle is kick-started after she is contaminated by a stray microbe while exploring a desert planet.

Double trouble?! :D

wait a sec ... that means there probably won't be an episode for this upcoming week right?

... and I don't see what flox's problem was ;)

That Phlox is quite a cad, isn't he? Apparently, T'Pol has no memory of what went on during her illness (considering she asked him, "Did we...?"). Rather than reassure her that nothing happened, he tells her that Denobulan males never discuss such things afterwards. :) Apparently everyone's looking forward to teasing the uptight Vulcan, even the good doctor.

Also, T'Pol has apparently noticed the way Reed "stares at her on the bridge." (This ties in nicely with that episode where Trip and Reed were stranded in a shuttlepod, waiting to die, and mistakenly believing the Enterprise had already been destroyed. They're getting drunk, and the discussion turns to T'Pol, and Reed remarks, "She's got a nice bum!") I was hoping to see some interaction between the two of them after T'Pol returned to normal - the awkward glances, Reed's nervous smile, etc. - but no such luck. Oh well.

It was nice seeing the Tellarites again, though! Nice costume/makeup upgrade since the Kirk days.

I thought the episodes were quite good, especially "First Flight." I do wish that "Bounty" had some more interaction between Reed and T' Pol.

Wolf72: Enterprise will have its Season Finale this Wednesday.

Interesting, perhaps even clever, bit of programming...

Standard programming includes re-airing of Wednesday episodes of Enterprise on Sunday at 9pm in Chicago. But First Flight reruns/re-airs again tonight (Saturday) in Chicago at 8pm and there is no rerun tomorrow night because they are running a long movie followed by a half hour of Cheers. This means they are saving the titilating episode Bounty for regular rerunning during the off-season.

The movie they've chosen to run on Sunday evening is Outbreak as they apparently ride the paranoia of recent "terrorist threat drills." Not exactly a terrorist theat movie, per se, but it fits closely enough to the premise that it should garner some interest along those lines. Thin plot, but it is well-cast and well-acted as well as being freneticly paced. Worth a watch if you've not seen it before.

BTW Enterprise was renewed, not surprisingly, despite sub-par ratings.

*EDIT* My bad, and their's...

Bounty was scheduled for re-airing even as I was posting, but their mistake was re-airing the wrong episode! I happened to tune in and find them re-airing First Flight which leads me to believe that they either loaded the wrong tape or that TV Guide mixed up which was to air when. That also means, which makes more sense, that they are planning to re-air the titilating Bounty in the evening slot tonight at 8pm in Chicago on Saturday. This may have been a even more clever bit of programming strategy than I first suspected... ;)

*SECOND EDIT* I think it must have been UPN's fault. They indeed are showing Bounty in the evening slot, basically reversing the order of what was foretold in TV Guide, which must be sent to TV Guide from the station. The reason I am suggesting it isn't TV Guide's fault though is that just before airing Bounty the UPN announcer also heralded First Flight for the evening slot. I'm guessing either the weekend techies at UPN switched the episodes accidentally, or perhaps the Wednesday evening techies put them back in the wrong cases, thus screwing their weekend counterparts.

It's bugging me...

I must know...

I love a good mystery... :p

Well, I only saw First Flight. As I don't get UPN, I have to wait for a syndicated broadcast on Saturday. Unfortunately they only showed the first one. While I liked seeing some of Starfleet's early history, and how Archer and Trip met, the episode wasn't overly interesting. I get the feeling they were doing a sort of rip-off of "The Right Stuff" or something. And I was really looking forward to seeing another classic Trek race brought back.

Unfortunately, I don't think I'll get to see that episode. The losers that run UPN did the same thing last season, showing two Enterprise episode in one night, and never releasing one (Desert Crossing) to local syndication. So unless the show gets sold into daily syndication (by season 5 or so, like Voyager is atm), I probably won't see it.

First Flight -- it showed some background and motivations to the characters and such which was a good thing. But for some reason the episode just didn't click with me. It felt a little too predictable at certain points...

Bounty -- the whole t'pol / phlox story line -- way too dependant upon t'pols body to hold interest in that story line... yes, I enjoyed some of the dialogue.. but it was just so obvious that the particular story line was made to show as much of t'pol's sex-appeal as possible. Archer's kidnapping was a more dynamic plot line... the bounty hunter had some depth and motivations shown within him, etc. etc.

So, while I am not a hard person to please, I definately had mixed feelings about both of these episodes: good in some ways and too much of something (predictable or dependant upon flesh) in others for me to find it enjoyable.

:)

(just my two cents since you are asking for opinions :) )

Yeah, but they are leaving it on Wednesdays. So it's gonna be opposite Smallville (which will be paired with Angel this fall). Be prepared for this monumentally bad decision to force ratings down even more, so they can claim the ratings totally stunk when they cancel it.

Stupid people shouldn't schedule genre TV shows.

I don't care for the soap opera feel of Smallville and never followed Angel. I only started watching Buffy a couple of years ago and caught up with it primarily through reruns. I do understand that there is a crossover audience so I expect if they are trying to put those two shows up against Enterprise because they think it is easy pickings we'll probably see Enterprise moved. Is Tuesday wide open now the Buffy is ending?
