Enterprise 10-09-02

I didn't get to see this on its first run, so only caught it tonight on its rerun.

First off, I quite enjoyed thespecial effects for the space station from the outside (seeing it there, seeing it move its arms about to do the work, watching it do the work through a window in the background of the crewmen's conversations, etc..) - I just enjoyed it, that's all I'm trying to say :)

As for the garbled sending of the coordinates... I don't believe it was the station that sent it. It only wanted the mayweather (or anyone) to sustain it while doing work, etc. It did not strike me as wanting to lure people to it. I am prescribing to the theory that there was in fact another ship that sent the message but that it was saying "not to go there" but the "not" was lost in the scrambled/static-filled transmissions :-)
(that's what I think anyway).

To me, the whole body snatching wasn't creepy, what was creepy was the way the ship was seen fixing itself just before cutting to end credits.

:)

anyway, just my rambles.

At the time, some people thought that inferred that the repair station was some kind of proto-Borg. However, the recent episode with the frozen Borg from First Contact showed that the Borg are still in the Delta quadrant at this time.

Yeah, the effects were pretty good. And the station rebuilding itself at the end was a nice sinister touch. I'd say an average ep. Nothing to get me all excited, but nothing that leaves me feeling disgusted with the show in the end.

That might be kinda interesting to bat around for a while. Are they really in the Delta Quadrant now or is that just where they are in the future. It's where the Borg came from that were in the future and attacked earth, hence why the Borg that were frozen sent their message there but is anyone there now to receive it?

Here's a thought...

What if the errant nanoprobes left over from destroying the Borg-highjacked earth medical ship infect some passing vessel, who then puts in to this self-contained space repair station to try and remove the infection but the space repair station and the nanoprobes combine. Then the thing starts making itself into a cube, as it would try in do anyway, but decides to follow its own message and heads off to the Delta Quadrant. It doesn't know that the Borg don't exist yet, but it knows where they sent the message. Once there, the Borg begin their rise to power.

That'd clean up two loose ends, close the plot circle of the Borg (explaining their creation) and remove this space repair station from our quadrant (since it is likely to have been discovered by others in the future if its existence continues as suggested by the end of that show where it was featured).

Does this clean up the continuity at all?

It's frighteningly captivating, is it not? Or is it...not? :p
Actually, I was just thinking that I have now successfully derailed yet another decent Trek thread.... for shame.

The sick part is that I was considering posting an avatar of my mug and now it would just look like am trying to be one of the cool kids. For shame.

I digress... :)
