I never thought I'd see the day that 1E and 3E advocates could get along...but it seems these two groups have done very well ;) despite a bunch of active threads that compare systems. It seems ENworld (for the most part) is turning out to be another place that welcomes 1Eers...and I think thats awsome (and it seems this has been the case for a pretty long time). I expect more 1Eers will find their way here in the next few months as the word gets out...at least I hope so. :D It seems the hatchet has been burried, and mutual respect rules the day (though a few minor kid skirmishes are to be expected...a world of difference from what we saw years back.)
The important thing to remember is that although systems can be compared, one is not "better" then the other...so don't even bother going there. Anyhow, lets hope the peace lasts.

Sorry Wiz, I'm still amazed that ENworld isn't the fire pit it used to be (and couldn't help but make this post). Once upon a time there was open warfare between the 2 camps...no longer. I hope your in agreement that both sides should try communicating instead of insulting and shouting.

::shrug::

A game's a game, regardless of edition.

I learned this by reading the various "is this a fair encounter?" or "what do we do now?" posts, and realizing the situations described are almost always edition-independent...also by playing 3e but running 1e and realizing that the characters can get in the same bad mess in either game despite the somewhat different game mechanics used to get them there... :)

Which also tells me the perfect rule-set *is* out there somewhere, probably but not certainly still waiting to be invented...and I'd guess that when it comes, it'll come from an ENWorld-er...

You know, to be completely honest, I'd love to see some talk about actual 1st Edition play.

Arguments about how 1st Edition is the bizwham shiznit Golden Nirvana of All Gaming Experiences get boring pretty fast. If all people ever did around here was talk say to each other, "3rd Edition D&D is AWESOME!" and "Word up, bro! It's the best!" I'd find another forum pretty damn fast.

My general attitude is: don't tell me how awesome your game is. Show me.

Respect is earned, and most of what I've seen so far is a few people starting the same dry argument in thread after thread. That doesn't earn my respect. That earns you a place in my "Zealot: ignore" file.

Rep: "...in the backs of 3.5E players everywhere, by the ravening, barbarous hordes from Dragonsfoot."

:D :D :D

Mol, lets hope we do see things settle enough for 1Eers to start posting about games and such, I too would love to see that here. I don't blame you for being a skeptic however, lets hope for the best. ;)
