Are you a DM or a Player (for the most part) please pick one or the other. I know some do both but which is it "most of the time" and which do you prefer?

I'm a player most of the time, but I enjoy being the DM on occasion.

I just haven't developed the epic stamina at continuing campaign arcs that a full time DM seems to need.

I DM'ed from Red Box until 2003. Now I have a second group that I am a player in.
I prefer to DM but I do love to play occasionaly.

I've got 2 different groups. Play in one and GM for the other... both play every week for the same length sessions... not really sure which way to answer. :)

There's not much in it, but currently I prefer playing to GMing... although that changes fairly often.

My nickname is my youth, even prior to D&D, was "The Ref". I set wargame scenarios, I learned to be an umpire. So it was only logical (especially as I was the first person in my group to buy the game) that I become the GM in the games.

While I enjoy playing, I rarely do so, as there is only so much time to actually game. **shrug** At least I truly enjoy being on the rules-side of the screen :)

I somewhat prefer to DM. Having played with 2 DMs, I really liked the one that had the inconvienently scheduled game (in the homebrew that he was consistently interested in). Go figure. But even then, I found that sometimes I really just wanted to swap characters for a more interesting build -- and being a DM gives me the chance to build things as interesting as my poor little players can handle.

Doppelganger vampire monks that go ethereal instead of gaseous...
Insane half-golem trolls...
Chimeric Yuan-Ti abominations...
Large half-fiend Gibbering Mouthers...
A demon chicken named Mr. Tiiba, based on the Vrock...
A Spirit Naga advanced to Huge size that cast Girallon's Blessing on herself to get 6 arms and look just like a certain demon with substantially higher CR....

And for all of that, the only guys that managed to kill a party memeber were the boring old clerics.

DMing is fun. Build as much as you want and it's a good thing when it dies. ;)

I DM pretty much all of the time, unless we need a little retro gaming and pull out Hero Quest. I like to play upon occasion, but I love being the DM most of the time.

I bet the message board crowd will be heavily biased towards DMs. It's almost a fact that they get more involved than the players in the game as a whole because they spend the time preparing for sessions and have to adjucate what's fair and isn't. Message boards represent a source of ideas, inspiration and help for DMs.

Meh, my bet's hedged from what I see. :p
