ENworld eye for the troll guy

What is a troll?

Lots of hp/Con, good attack, good damage, deadly follow-up attack (Rend), Regeneration, reach...

How about some kind of angry nature spirit or something? It manifests as a whirlwind of loose debris - fallen branches, pine needles, etc. Large size. It spins around and hits hard with all the debris and if it hits just right, it overwhelms you with it. (Rend) If you hit it, you knock stuff out of the whirlwind, but it just picks up more (regen). Fire burns it, since it's old and dry wood.

That's kinda lame, all I could come up with.

Hmmm, a nature spirit sounds like it could fit in Midnight. The whirlwind of debris could be the basic troll stats albeit with the elemental type (and air subtype).

Sounds like a great idea, LostSoul!

Thanks!

Only problem is that the elemental type is better than giant. To get around this, you could say that it has a "core" body of wood, etc. that can be critically hit. Like an evil awakened Log. And some kind of oozing greenish sap-blood, so it can be poisoned. And it needs to sleep... and it can be paralyzed...

It's not the best fit, but you might be able to do it without changing type.

From Tony DiTerlizzi's new monster book, Arthur Spiderwick's Field Guide to the Fantastical World Around You:

and elsewhere, also by Tony DiTerlizzi:

You could use the woodling template...I believe its in one of the Monster Manuals (3 perhaps?) making it a plant instead of going elemental.

BTW, Diaglo- thanks on the Troll's origin info- I didn't know that one!

Doesn't need to be an elemental, it could be classed as a construct or undead. As a construct, it is just a self-organising mass of debris held together by magical force. An incorporeal undead could do the same thing...
