[ENWorld Vets] Am I the only one feeling nostalgic?

My attempts to learn what 3E would be like was the reason I discovered and started posting to ENWorld.

While searching across the web for 3E related sites, I came upon one that was better than all the others, and that was ENWorld.
Here I came.
And here, I stayed.

ditto.

*Chuckle*...I'm touched you remember:)

I just took a look at the history of ENworld and I was actually your 2nd scooper.

Haven't been into ENworld since last year, but the Revised handbook has me interested. Boy, do I feel old.

Yeah, it sure does remind me of the good ol' days. (Which is not to say that these days are bad at all!)

This time around, the pressure is off a bit, because the game changes will not be as radical as going from 2e to 3e. We also have a shorter lead time - 6 months instead of 12 - to have to wait. That's part of what made"C'mon, August!" so resonant to me - it was going to be a great new game that we only had hints of in the distance. Now, we're are firmer and better-explored ground.

But given the revelations ofthe past few days, I can see why it's called 3.5 instead of 3.1! That's why I feel a bit of the old excitement. And why I'll check the front page more than once a day to see if there's any new news. :)

I miss the old site sometimes ... the layout, the grasping of new tidbits, the thrill of discovering them.

I remember creating my first third edition character two monthes before the PHB came out, by using the information on Eric's site.

Anyone remember the old 3rd edition preview site WotC had? It was black background with a red title. It had some of the iconics and the beholder and the umber hulk and a few spells.

I remember checking the official site and eric's site everyday. God that was so long ago, but I remember the thrill and excitement. Hell, I was a senior in high school when third edition came out.

Good times.

its nice to have exciting news again. no offense to morrus, but since WotC specifically banned play testers from leaking here etc. and since the books publishing rates slowed a bit, the news papge just hasn't been as exciting.

and now it's exciting again. :D

i'm a little concerned about the amount of conversion work that may take place, but most of the changes sound good to me, so i'm ok with it.

Yup, do remember the ole' days and it makes me feel really, really old.

Which isn't really healthy seeing I'm only 19! :D

Seriously though, without 'Eric Noah's Unofficial D&D 3e News' I'd probably never have bought 3e or played it. I had a very fierce hating of the THAC0 system and I landed here (or there, rpgnet.com/dnd3e or whatever the url was) by complete accident and became fascinated by the archaic message boards and the scoops of how different and stream-lined the rules would be).

And weird RPG arguments that my young brain had never thought of before.

The thing that's really taking me back is all the ranting about how WotC is trying to rip everybody off. Deja vu.

Man. Has it really been this long?

I can still even remember the birth of the Pantheon (by, actually, Charwoman Gene).

Boy, that thread got out of hand, quickly.

Oh yeah. And the Fireball thread.

Ah, the days of yore, reading combat examples pitting Tordek against two tyrantfog zombies, Krusk (or was it still Imsh?) against the evil wizard, and Ember against three halfling rogues.

I still remember first stumbling to the news site via a link from some WotC playtester site, or summink.

Took a few incarnations of the forums before I started posting, though. Spent most of my time over at the WotC Forgotten Realms boards.

But yes, those days of waiting for the new edition, reading news bits and scoops, and then speeding to the FLGS the very day the D&D Adventure Game was released, and repeating the ritual with the PHB, the DMG, and the MM, were great. Hard to believe it was so long ago. Time goes by, as it is wont to do... I just hope that whenever 4E comes out, we can have a similar site, with a similar great community and staff, in whatever 3D virtual network we'll be using. :)
