Playing a Jann Monk 19 could be fun. But the whole epic thing is well over my head. I think I'll lurk.

Good luck with this. I like watching epic characters unfold. The numbers make my mind boggle.

thotd

I am contemplating two characters, both subject to change, first may be over the top in comparison to other things, and I am not sure that it fits your definition of a playable race (There is a listed ECL, but not +X LA, though things are simple to figure out (ECL - HD = LA))

First is the Ha-Naga/Sorcerer 2/Blackguard 2

The second is pretty straight forward

Human Wizard 7/Archmage 3/Loremaster 20

amusingly I would consider the two somewhat evenly matched, though the Ha-Naga will look more impressive.

I have a story sketch for both characters, but before I "pen" anything, I thought I would check in here.

I agree, I too will lurk rather than try to whip up a character at that level.

Ah, forgot to mention: Creatures from the ELH are specifically banned as PCs. I have no idea what the Wizard guys were smoking when they came up with those ECL entries.

My primary idea is a half-elf Cleric/Pious Templar/Divine Oracle/Contemplative/Seeker of the Misty Isle (levels to be determined.)

Some questions:

1) Is there leeway as far as homebrewed deities? This character wouldn't worship Corellion, but it's always struck me as silly for there to be only one Elf deity. Would a neutral or evil deity be okay for those classes? There's nothing in any of the entries requiring a specific deity be followed.

2) When I worked it out, he'd have access to 7 domains -- more than any one deity can provide. Would that be a problem? I see the character seeking knowledge more than anything else.

Far as gods go, you have two choices: you either worship the Perfect, or you worship some abstract ideal of your own. You are, after all, his creations, and the standard D&D gods do not exist in this world.

In either case, you have access to all domains. In the case of the abstract ideal, you'll have to come up with something that ties in your domains with it story-wise.

Yay! Now that's a sensible DM, I'd also recommend tossing out the Sylph which has Sorcerer spellcasting equal to it's HD + 4, even though it has a LA of +5 and 3 HD, that's still 22 levels of other classes and 29 levels of sorcerer spell casting. Before I go and make a character with it ;) And really any other race that grants spellcasting (spellweaver).

So... here's the first concept that I'm tossing out

Human? Warmage 5/Rainbow Servant 10/Archmage 5/Heirophant 5/Warmage 1/x 4

I'd make a True Necromancer, but it's not really worth it without hordes of undead minions ;)

Second concept would be

Rogue 3/Wizard 5/Arcane Trickster 10/Archmage 2/Epic Arcane Trickster 10

Hmm hmm hmm. I have this idea to try an epic counterspeller, since magic is king at these levels... A sorceror with Initiate of the Seven Veils PrC, Archmage (with the Reflective Counterspell trick) and the Improved Counterspell, Reactive Counterspell and possibly Epic Counterspell feats.

I would either need to use the Metamagic variant sorceror from PHB2, or the Accelerated Metamagic feat for Heighten Spell, from Races of the Dragon, to make the most of this concept...though it'd still work without them.

Would either of those be acceptable?

Races of the Dragon is out. Otherwise it's fine.

Where's reactive counterspell/epic counterspell from?
