D&D 3E/3.5 Epic Destinies for 3.5

my own fusion of eternal hero with white wolf's exalted concepts

*exalted hero: the hero is permeated with a divine soul shard to fulfill some self chosen destiny, eventually fulfills it and becomes a soul shard again, awaiting another worthy epic vessel to empower, breinging part of each precedent personality with it

maybe you can even choose from different powers based on the nature of the shard, although only celestial shards are thematically suited to an epic levels dnd game, that's still quite a number of themes to choose...

solar, for holy, gilgamesh-like, in-your-face effects, or sidereal for subtle, confusing, breaking-the-4th-wall effects. you can even thake inspiration from high essence charms...

You could have made it twice as good just by leaving the pages blank.

my first post on andy collins messageboard was stating something like that out of frustration of looking through that book once in the store ;)

Artificer won´t be like that in 4e... but for 3e even the chance that there are some of them will make spellcasters thinking twice about dropping disjunctions on everyone they see (in adition to chances of destroying artifacts)

* "Immortal Archmage", wizard hero unlocks secret of immortality and amasses untold arcane power, going on to fuse with the magic permeating the world.

If you strike me down, Darth, I will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine... ;)

I'll take Logan Bonner's challenge and guess that Mythic Shadow is the 3.5e Epic Destiny that will appear in 4e.

I like the Eternal Hero, as I think they made a mistake translating the fast healing ability by using temporary hit points. (It seems that Temp HP in 4e is healing if you've lost HP. In 3e it isn't, as you go back to your lower number when they go away.)

Notice the artifact master though: once per day, when you die, possess a magic item.

Maybe the mods should move this 3.5 stuff out of the 4E forum before everyone freaks out...
It was in the D&D Rules forum for a short time, but apparently in a merge process with Ipissimus' thread, it got back to the 4E forum. ;)

I think its a damage buffer. I also can´t remember that temp hp can actually heal in 4e.

I really really like those epic destinies. Well thought. Not "actively" overpowered at all. Making you able to survive whats usually your certain dead when you didn´t powergame and you play with an inexperienced DM.

And the best: I could imagine some typical fantasy archetypes/characters when i just read the description...

and when i present the demigod to one of my players, he wil immediately bring his barbarian to level 20^^
although when I present him with the eternal hero or blade of ragnarok, then he maybe will have a hard time to decide what he wants to become^^

At 27th level, you can transfer your soul to an item when you die. This ability functions once per day. When you are reduced to 0 hit points
  • You don't die when you hit zero, you die when you hit -10, right?
  • "once per day"? What does that mean for something permanent that can't fail?
  • If your item gets destroyed, can you do it again? It says "When you die" and "if it's destroyed you die"?
  • Can you use it on something an enemy is holding? Can you pull them around, lift them etc?
  • You still get bonuses from your body's items, does that mean if you're resurrected you go back?
  • What is your strength in this case? If it functions normally it's the strength of your body right?
  • How big a weapon can we use? Can we transfer into say, a statue and move around?
