Epic DR help!

This doesn't even address where Artifacts & Legendary Weapons fit into the Equation.
Probably house rule that artifacts can indeed overcome DR IF they have properties that state that. (IE overcomes all forms of DR.)

That's odd (but according to the text absolutely true). However, I wouldn't allow a +4 bane weapon to overcome epic DR. IMO, the +2 bonus bane adds to a weapon should just be a circumstance bonus, not a bonus to the enhancement bonus. Otherwise the bane trait really messes with the epic item costs. There's a difference between 72,000 gp for a +4 bane weapon and 660,000 gp for a normal +6 weapon. But the cost difference shouldn't swing that wide.

...of course, that way, assuming average wealth levels and treasure drops, nobody (except the monk) could breach epic DR for a while, unless the DM takes pity on the melee fighter and plants a +6 weapon, as 660kgp items don't drop very often.

Other solutions include using a Sword of the Planes (handy on the outer planes, and it backs out as a +20kgp add-on), or a Sun Blade (which calculates out as a +3 enhancement bonus equivalent, and nifty against evil things). Those are somewhat more useful generally, but the DM would have to approve those (I would, but I'm a bit indulgent in that regard).

Unless you were in our now-concluded epic campaign where all our characters had pretty powerful weapons. I'm not sure about the other character's weapon abilities but my cleric had a +7 Holy Greatsword with additional abilities channeled through a +6 Holy Gauntlet with Bane qualities, holy abilties and disruption. All these abilities channeled from that gauntlet through her sword, depending on the alignment of the enemy she hit. So, I'd say that this particular character probably could put a hurtin' on one tarrasque.... (not that the party ever fought one....) They had other, bigger "fish" to fry......

For epic play, just get a +1 weapon with 9 bane effects (+10 weapon in all).

Then just get a scabbard of Magic weapon or ask the party mage to cast magic weapon on your weapon every morning. That way it is +5 weapon with bane for many monster types. Ie, +7 vs most of the general types.

Easy epic DR breaker for 9 different mob types. Of course, one MDJ can ruin your day, but I think the Magic Weapon -spell is not your biggest trouble at that point.
