Epic Prestige Classes Progression

May I ask your suggestion, please?

Me and my hungry players yesterday night have been trying to evaluate among all the Prestige Classes in Tome & Blood, Sword & Fist, Masters of the Wild, Defenders of the Faith and Song & Silence are eligible for an Epic Progression (beyond 10th level) and which not.

We have considered only PrCls with 10 full levels (so no Wayfarer's Guides or Exotic Weapon Masters).

We have already written down the epic progression and tried to estimate a good rate for Bonus Feats, but we didn't compile the Bonus Feat List.

So, this is the list of the PrCls we thought ARE NOT comfortably extendible beyond 10th, please leave your comments if you think they should (or you think the others shouldn't)! :)

Acolyte of the Skin
Alienist
Blood MAgus
Candle Caster
Church Inquisitor
Divine Oracle
Drunken Master
Fatespinner
Mage of the Arcane Order
Master of Chains
Master of Shrouds
Mindbender
Palemaster
Shifter
Spellsword
Tempest
True Necromancer
Verdant Lord

These classes have been considered to really "complete" their features in 10 levels, and don't offer features which improve by character level in a linear way. Some of them have maybe 1 or 2 very little thing (such as a single save DC) improving "+ level" but that seemed too little to remain the only progression after 10th.

For ex. Church Inquisitor has an ability with save DC = 10 + ChInq level + Wis. If that is the only thing you get with more levels, we thought the class was not really extendable.

Well... to be honest, it's a odd subject. Personally, I would have considered Loremaster "done" at 10th... but they continued it. So, who knows.

I think that all prestige classes with a little work can become epic. For instance the Spellsword is being talked about in the House Rules Forum and another person in a different thread said he was working on Epic Verdent Lord.

Personally, I'd fill a little jipped knowing that a prestige class I wanted would not allow me to go epic just because it was not built as a pattern. IMNSHO, I think Wizards is taking the lazy man's way out here but doing it that way. With a little work and creativity any class can go Epic and beyond.

Yup. Even the Archmage, a 5 level PrC, can be taken into epic levels with a little work. Unfortunately, it can be a real pain in the butt. Most of the 5 level prestige classes (I figure about 95% of them) involve a heck of a lot more work to convert than than the 10 level prestige classes.

Ya, but if I was playing an Archmage I'd go to the trouble of doing just that. :D

If you (the player) were playing an Archmage, then I can guarantee you that I (the DM) would go to the trouble as well. As my grandpappy always said...

Do unto others as they would do....unto...do to...uhhh....their stuff...no, that's not it...do unto other people's stuff....no! that's not it either, dammit!...do unto...aww screw it! Just don't screw with people K!

As the DM, I'd also go to the trouble of creating epic presitge classes for the players, but I have a bit more free time. My current DM is married with 3 kids, so not a lot of free time there. That's one of the reasons I created the Epic Oozemaster. I highly doubt the camapaign will last that long (we're 6th level and that's the highest this group has ever gotten :D) but it gives me a goal for my character.

So, go over to the House Rules forum and comment on the Epic Oozemaster. ;)
