While GR indicates that they will be making an alternate (less kaboom) system for their Black Company license, I would imagine something akin to epic spellcasting being used for the Taken and the Shadowmasters (at least, those Shadowmasters that were Taken on the run).

...and for Tobo, and for the non-Taken Shadowmasters, who were just as capable as, say, Howler or Shapeshifter. There's nothing that says they were any less capable than the Taken. As long as they have enough levels, that is.

Very VERY pleased.

Epic level support is very much needed.

I'm mostly pleased by the updating of the ELH stuff that wound up in the SRD, like making Keen Strike, say, useful.

I'm not that enthused about third-party stuff, mostly since my experiences with third-party stuff have been negative or "eh."

I'm not sure the issue would translate into "levels", per se... For instance, Tobo was still quite young but uber-powerful, with little life experience that would have resulted in Level gain, while One-Eye and Tom-Tom (both well over 100 years of age) were scared to whit's end when they first met Soulcatcher.

As BC seems to be a godless setting (i.e., the deities of myth were simply powerful sorcerers from more ancient eras who's actions became legend), I'd really like to see the Taken and those other "special" casters fill a similar power-niche. Consider the Battle of Charm: One-Eye, Goblin, and Silent could never release the same amount of power (turning an entire mountain-side into molten rock, for example), and they knew it.

In the end, just gotta wait and see what GR does.
