No vote; the choices don't really reflect my opinion.

I think it's good. I was looking forward to seeing epic stuff added to the SRD. It's better for me to download the SRD stuff then spend $40 on the book, given how few of my campaigns make it that far. It gives third party publishers more to work with and make WotC look bad. :D And I like to see WotC add stuff to the SRD, not take stuff away.

I also think it's a good thing they took the time to update the rules to 3.5.

I'm not really fond of D&D after 14th or 15th level, the game starts to break down under its own weight at that point IMO. So I could care less about epic level stuff.

I'm thrilled; I've been waiting for this since the ELH first came out. Hopefully, third party support will drive people to try out high-level gaming to see if they like it.

I got what i payed for [only thanks to buy.com's 15 dollar price tag mistake] with the epic level handbook. i liked the art and a few of the lovecraftian style critters, but the style of play presented just doesn't sit with me. The holes in high level's play become too evident. Your life really is factored into the 'a CR encounter of your level cost 1/4th the party resourses' with expectations of true resses after epic battles being normal with things like "DC 31 Will save or have your brain teleported out of you skull!". Many attacks seemed to ignore your ac, saves and hitpoints or targeted a bad save, "Fighter, dc 31 will save! [see above]" " wizard, dc 37 fort save a or lose 6 con [repeat for 6 rounds], +36 touch attatcks that go strait for your abilitys scores & levels and poisons that did half your con in damage each time it affected you, Greater dispell and Haste seemed to show up on most critter's spell lists, Also tossing around the "Epic" tag got very old when its just for a bigger fatter bonus. There were many cool ideas, but for most of them, a retooling of them could have been usable for levels past 12th.

Why? Because while I'm not particularly enthused by epic level books, I do like third party companies being able to introduce a few epic things here and there. A book devoted to epic level play may not necessarily enthuse me, but being able to use it sparingly...just dandy.

I'm also for anything going into the SRD. The more things third party publishers have as options, the better I say.

Given how many 3rd party non-Vancian magic rules we've seen, there's GOT to be someone out there who'll come up with a non-sucky Epic Magic rule set.

I vote for "Yay! 3rd party stuff!"

At epic levels, though, a DC 31 Will save shouldn't be nearly as hard as it sounds, even for a fighter. The way to deal with that ability, though, is a dimensional lock -- no teleporting brains!

The monsters are designed to be possible. I'm running a game at low epic levels (played for 2 years from level 3 to effective party level 22).

Again, those saves aren't really that bad -- my group (average level = 19) never succumbed to either my fear aura (Will DC 29) or my stunning attack (Fort DC 32), even though combat lasted 25 rounds!

Poison needs to be treated or it's a real pain. Touch attacks can be foiled, or the group can set up a line of fire making it difficult for the toucher to close. Most saves succeed, and poison immunity is just a spell away anyway.

Sure, but they only get a round to use them if they have suprise, distance, or are willing to give up normal attacks.

Do you realize this means Upper Krust's Immortal Handbook could actually be finished?

*rolls to disbelieve*

While GR indicates that they will be making an alternate (less kaboom) system for their Black Company license, I would imagine something akin to epic spellcasting being used for the Taken and the Shadowmasters (at least, those Shadowmasters that were Taken on the run).

I'm also looking forward to alternates to epic's power scaling. Hell, I can finally post my own...
