Eric Noah...Don't Make Me Kick Your A**...

;) :p

OK...now that I have your attention...

A while back, Eric posted that he had picked up an indoor bike trainer. Following his lead, I did some research and picked up this one:

1upusa Trainer

Great trainer...works with both my bikes and has a super easy set up.

That, combined with several "Spinervals" DVDs has re-energized my usually slack indoor winter workout routine. I use these DVDs:

Sweating Buckets - 45 minutes

Enter the Red Zone - 1 hour

I use a programmable heart rate monitor to track effort and routinely burn 700-900 calories per work out. The "Red Zone" DVD is a real a** kicker...and it is only one of the Fitness-level programs, their competition level is even tougher!

Thanks, Eric...my lactic acid build up thanks you ;)!

You know... Winter bike riding is so much more fun, if you go do it outside on the bike trails.

I saw your post right after I posted this one...ouch!

The neighborhood I live in is at the start of a 48-mile hike/bike trail that runs along an old railroad line (NCR Trail). It is awesome 3 seasons of the year...just roll the bike out of the garage and onto the trail. Now that my son is big enough, I chunk him in the bike trailer for a really good work out (dragging an extra 50 lbs behind you does wonders for the quads).

Winter, however, sucks. Last year the trail had ice sheets on much of it until late March, making for very poor riding...hopefully our recent thaw and rains will make it passable much earlier this year. My problem isn't rabbits...it's chipmunk and squirrel kamakazie brigade :p!

I bike outdoors when the weather is decent and try to log at least 50-75 miles a week. I really don't enjoy biking when the temp drops below 45 degrees (or when there is snow/ice around). That typically meant a 3-month layoff in the winter with sporadic workouts...but now I can torture myself 3-5 times per week all through the winter!

I notice that you posted this thread title AFTER you made the call NOT to go to GenCon this year. ;)

I sympathize with your plight though. I am supposed to keep up a regular exercise program and I'm the sort that will sieze ANY excuse not to go jogging. "It's too (rainy, hot, cold, sunny, nice, beautiful) outside to go jogging today. Maybe tomorrow." So I've got a treadmill.

Now I only really have an excuse when the power is out.

Go to GenCon - you'll lose weight. I lost 5 pounds the last year at Milwaukee.

My wife and I's current exercise routine - Playstation 2's - DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION EXTREME!

Sounds crazy, but it's working. We play (work out?) every night for at least an hour. We took last week off, because I was too busy playing Tony Hawk Pro Skate 4 which, admittedly, didn't help me lose any weight, but gave me a decent callous on my left thumb.

Die Kluge - Dextra and I also use that routine. We play DDRMax2 (Dance Dance Revolution Max 2) and run it for about an hour or so at a shot.

It is indeed a good exercise system, and they even have that calorie counting system built into it to determine how much you burn in a workout based on the songs and the difficulty level.
