Hmm... I don't like how close and area attacks also hit creatures swallowed by the worm... that doesn't make any sense to me.

That and I don't see the worm as being intelligent (or evolved) enough to be able to vomit up those it swallowed.

Heh, it makes perfect sense to me. You're in a worm's belly while it's digesting you alive. Equate a close burst attack to a grenade, and you can see why throwing grenades into a confined space with allies inside it is a bad idea. Alternatively, swinging your sword around like a maniac when you're in said confined space doesn't seem like a great idea to me, either.

That and I don't see the worm as being intelligent (or evolved) enough to be able to vomit up those it swallowed.
Hrm. The closest thing I can compare it to is ruminants, but those don't spit out their food.

Maybe if the creature is doing too much damage from the inside (like if the worm swallowed a fighter or something), and the worm spits it out because it's hurting it too much?

I had some interesting thoughts:

When swallowed, you have line of sight and effect to the worm *and other swallowed creatures*. Imagine a PC, swallowed, on the verge of dying. The party leader then attracts the worm's attemtion, hoping to be swallowed to he can heal the other PC!

Yeah, this will make for some absolutely great and memorable moments at the table. It also means there is a chance of saving a dying character inside the worm (given that hefty 30 damage a turn, you'll need to do something quick!).

I also like that my original Purple Worm draft from ages ago had a power that effectively worked the same as Ponderous. I am most amused. I would definitely consider using this solo though, unlike the original. The new Dracolich, which sadly won't get previewed is also completely amazing. Far better than the original terrible one. Alongside the improved Wraith, it looks like in one supplement Wizards have wrote out the three worst monsters in 4E.

It seems to have a high AC for a brute (which is ok i guess)...

also how does moving (sliding) work when you don´t occupy a square... or is swallowed a condition now which specifies how it interacts with rules? A creature swallowed should be restrained...

also the targetting change should read: a close or area attack that targets "all creatures in the burst" targets all creatures swallowed by the worm. (An area attack should hit yourself too. Enemy only attacks should not target your allies)

edit: and a strength based character without athletics trained has a +13 bonus on escape checks... if he is trained, he never gets burnt by the acid... maybe the best action if the worm swallowed the fighter would be reurgitating him immediately... a fighter could actually do its job just fine from the inside...

at least (defender auras and marks end) would be needed... also a clarification if the worm is considered adjacent to the swallowed target... since it doesn´t occupy a square...

Yup, getting deliberately swallowed is now a tick on your adventurer's bucket list. (See: Men in Black and many others!)

With regard to the targetting I think the idea is that its such a close space when you are inside the worm that if you use a burst or blast, its going to hit everyone, even if it normally would exclude allies.

Yeah most Str based characters should be fine in the stomach. Unfortunately, this just hurts paladins even more. Not only is there a decent chance that they won't be Str-based, they are also likely to be wearing Plate.
