Essentials - Will you be getting it?

From what you know so far, are you feeling the love for Essentials?

There's no poll option for me that I feel I can squeeze into.

Essentially, I like the idea of essentials, even if I don't like 4e, even though I play 4e and have had an active DDI subscription from the start. I will be buying it but have no great love for ever running it. Perhaps the whole nostalgia thing of the red box (my own personal start and introduction to D&D) is what has gotten me to bite.

I voted to fling spoons because the only games I've played have been a few Encounter games since well before 4e came out. But I bouught the 3 core 4e books, and the other Player's Guides. So I might pick up the Compendium. We'll see.

Looks like it will add some interesting player options. I'll be curious to see what the GM side is about. New adventurers to steal from are always welcome at my table.

So far though the numbers look almost exactly like what I would have thought they would based on comments in other threads.

I would have expected more in option 5, though my option wording was far from perfect. The only other entirely misleading conclusion I can draw is that:

1. approx 2.5 times more people play 3x/PF than Basic/1E/2E
2. approx 2.5 times more people play 4E than 3x/PF
3. Thus WotC should release 5E asap and multiply their player base by a similar factor.

Wait....

How about this option:

I play retro/basic/1E/2E but Essentials is sounding interesting enough to take a look?

This is mildly insulting:

I play retro/basic/1E/2E but Essentials is calling me and I am powerless to resist

I would expect to find such a ratio on this board, even with as much as ENWorld attempts to be something to every edition of D&D.

Go to Paizo's boards and I would imagine you would get PF as the number 1 game, go to Dragonsfoot or Castles and Crusades message boards and PF and 4E would be on the bottom.

So if anything this poll illustrates the demographics of ENWorld. It is primarily visited by fans of 4E, closely followed by fans of 3E and/or Pathfinder, then distantly followed by fans of other games and/or editions of D&D.

I don't think that has ever been a real secret about ENWorld.

If you keep telling all of our secrets, pretty soon people will learn that we are all alts of the Rouse.

P.S. Morrus is the next Doctor.

Too many pollmakers on every board I have ever visited work too hard to be cute with replies. This poll in particular suffers from the cuteness making the options mean something different and more narrow than they should be.

The option I need is

"I play 4E as well as earlier editions and am going to take a good look at Essentials"

I will thoroughly investigate Essentials with the anticipation that it'll just provide a new character build for several classes.

I love splat books so bring it on.
