Eternia (ie the World of He-Man and the MotU)

Your memory's pretty good. www.he-man.org , the web's premiere MotU site, has all of the mini-comics that came with the figures online--legally, even. :-) The ones related to this arc, Alzrius, are "King of the Snake Men", "The Ultimate Battleground", "Enter: Buzz-Saw Hordak", and "The Powers of Grayskull--The Legend Begins!"

That's a great link! Glad to be able to read all those mini-comics again.

Personally, I always preferred the original He-Man continuity (He-Man was a barbarian, Teela was a warrior-goddess, etc.) to the "made for children" Prince Adam of Eternia stuff that came later. I liked the Sword and Sci-Fi sort of vibe that the original mini-comics gave to the world (Zodac the time traveller, etc.). That's the world I'd try adapting into a D&D game, rather than the later Eternia stuff.

Cthulhudrew -> I agree (and Conan artist Alfredo Alcala did an amazing job in the first mini-comics!).

That's why I tried to reconcile the Adam aspect with the barbarian aspect, having Adamok as the lost heir to the throne of Eternia, raised by a tribe of barbarians.

What is this original continuity of which you speak? Seriously, the first one I'm familiar with was the one of the mini-comics and action figures, which seems to mesh (almost) perfectly with the cartoon. Was there one before that? How was it different?

The first minicomics (that came with the initial release of the figures; He-Man, Teela, Man-at-Arms, Skeletor, Beastman, Mer-Man, Stratos, Zodac) had a story of their own. Check out these ones:

#1
#2
#3
#4

The point where this continuity ends and others slowly mutate into the cartoon's continuity is a little vague, but these 4 hold to the original story.

Ah, the art of Alfredo Alcala...

That brings back memories...
