ETHEREAL INK
Wondrous item, legendary (requires attunement by a sorcerer)

This small vial contains swirling colors of ichor that is used to create tattoos gifted by the gods. It will radiate Transmutation magic when Detect Magic is cast. You make a small cut and either place the wound into the ink or pour it onto the wound. As you concentrate, the ink will absorb into the body and create the design(s) you wish at the location you desire in one hour.

The ink imbues you with the following magical benefits.

  • You gain a +2 bonus to your spell attack rolls, spell save DC, and saving throws.

Forbidden Knowledge.
The ichor bestows fragments of power and knowledge that imbue you with magical abilities. You gain the following abilities.

  • You can see normally in darkness, both magical and nonmagical, to a distance of 120 feet.
  • You can see the true form of any shapechanger or creature concealed by illusion or transmutation magic while the creature is within 30 feet of you and within line of sight.

Spell Absorption.
You can use your reaction when another creature casts a spell that targets only you. If you do, your tattoo absorbs the magic of the spell, cancelling its effect and you gain a number of sorcery points equal to the absorbed spell’s level. You cannot exceed the maximum number of sorcery points you are allowed.

Spells.
You can also use an action to cast one of the following spells at will without expending a spell slot:

  • Comprehend Languages
  • Detect Magic
  • Levitate
  • Tongues

Ending the attunement requires a receptacle and an expenditure of 1 sorcery point for every sorcerer level.

The Staff of Power and Staff of magic were used to help inspire this item

Theme
Centuries ago when life was in its infancy, the gods battled amongst themselves for sovereignty. Many gods were either killed or relegated to lesser roles. The bodies of the dead gods were used to create continents or even other worlds. The blood (ichor) shed from the gods collected in deep recesses of the world. When life was created, some of these rare blood pockets were found. Originally feared for its appearance, it was found to bestow great power to those who bathed or ingested it, but the power was fleeting and required constant replenishment. Over the centuries, those with great power were able to incorporate the ichor with other ingredients to create an item that will not fade with time but remain to those who join with it. Thus the creation of Ethereal Ink. The basic powers it bestowed to beings with innate magical ability was to increase the power of the spells and make it difficult for others to resist.

Forbidden Knowledge
The gods themselves had the all-seeing power. Not only could they sense what was happening in the world around them, but magically see what mere mortals could never what was in the world around them. The ichor grants a mere fraction of that great power.

Spell Absorption/Spells
The gods either represented the essence of magic in all its forms or helped create the force of magic that mortals touch upon to have them cast spells. This allows you to be one with weave of magic and incorporate magic into yourself to use at your beck and call.

The spell absorption is the same as the way it is found for the Staff of Power, but instead of recharging the staff, it recharges the sorcerer. The recharge is dependent on having a spell that only targets and the level. The Staff of Power could theoretically grant the user unlimited spells to cast from the staff. The frequency you would have a spell target only you each time is not common. I would think if there would have been concern of abuse, the Staff would have had limitations included instead of potential spell immunity with spell absorption and advantage on all saving throws feature that was also included. I don't think it would be something that would cause problems. I thank you for your concern but for now I will leave it as is at least fro now.
