Ever been kicked out/not invited back to a gaming group?

I can think of one group I was kicked out of. It was a Cthulhu group. Things were going really well, but I invited a 'friend' of mine. The other guys didn't like him so they cancelled the game. They later told me that they started up without me because they thought I might be offended that they didn't invite my friend back. Those guys now play in my home campaign :)

Yeah.

IMO, it's because I ran a better game than him. He was running his game and he invited me to run a one shot when he was tied up with his work. He played a NPC as a character. The other players payed a heck of a lot more attention when I was running. And, they were a lot more animated when I ran.

So, as the game progressed and he took over, I found that my character was having more difficulties and that he was making wisecracks about me. When he started to compare me to the Baron Harkonnen I knew it was time to go.

So, at that point, I just dropped out, he didn't call, and we went our separate ways.

I might be getting kicked out of one now, I'm not sure. If I am, it'll be the first, though.

Nope, I've never been kicked from a group.
However, I have left two groups around the time that they should have been thinking of kicking me. They wouldn't have kicked me out, mostly because of inter-group friendship, but ultimately, my play style didn't gel with the play styles of 2 or more people in the groups (and in one case, the DM), so it was time to leave. My only consolation was that the first one started to fall apart afterwards, and the second one just didn't sound like any fun. ;)

The social issues involved in the group play dynamics are some interesting stuff though.

Got "Stealth Dropped" once. where the campaign was (I thought) ended, but actually was moved to a different day and place. I figured it out later when people were reminiscing about a campaign and certain things sounded familiar, but others not so much... :) But no hard feelings.

Does parachuting myself out of campaigns count?

I realized rather quickly that bailing out of games that I didn't enjoy was the best policy.

Although I didn't get kicked out of a group, I had my character kicked out of one. It was Shadowrun, and my PC was employed to get in and out of dangerous situations, and broadcast it on TV (my senses were patched into a satellite feed). Loads of fun, but the stealth-nut sense of the rest of the party got in the way. It went like this:

"Um, your character's cool and all, and you haven't tried to screw us over, but our characters are really uncomfortable hanging around him, and they'd like to just try to avoid him. Would you be willing to create a new character?"

So I made Dr. Orson Pitts, orc bear shaman and DocWagon heavy.

Damn. I had a quick reply, but it accidentally deleted.

To put it simply: yes.

It was grade seven, and I joined the group for one night so I could finally get a chance to PLAY. See, I'd been running an in-schol game that at it's biggest, had over TWENTY kids playing. So I was looking forward to a chance to be on the other side of the screen.

Problem was, they were all nerds, and they seriously talked in-character. There were many "thous", "prithees", "yonders", and at one point, the whole group (sans me) got involved with a flirting encounter with one of the NPC barmaids (Played by the DM). It was very homoerotic.

After two hours of enduring "You hath no chance of defeating me!" and tittering over HERCULAR THE WARRIOR's massive damage rolls, I just got so pissed off that I needed to leave. I think I was playing a mage or a cleric or something, and I wound up charming the group's fighter. After that, I suggested that the thief had been stealing, and had this sort of plan of mine to kill the entire party. They realized what I was up to, and were eventually able to stop me, so that my mage was quickly killed. They asked me never to play with them again, and I was fine with that.

I did wind up stealing one of the players, though. That was cool.

Yes, but it was semi-mutual. Thought I was joining a new group starting up, but it turned out to be me and one other guy joining a pre-existing group. We had some major style clashes, with the DM insisting on one instakill, no save trap in every dungeon and all replacement PCs coming in at 1st level. Tried to talk things out, politely, and his wife ranted me out. It turned into a real mess and they moved the game day to a night they knew I had a class. At the time I was pretty upset since I'd been making good faith efforts to reconcile, try things the DM's way, and all of that.

So I can't say I regret being booted, but the experience and my natural inclination towards introversion haven't really encouraged me to seek out a new in-person group. Now I run and play in PBEMs, and play in PBPs.

Yes.

It was about 20 years ago and the basic problem was that as one of the few people at the table who had a good grasp of the rules (I normally DMed including for that same group) it made my involvement as a player a tad problematic. Anyway, I agreed with the decision and exclusively DMed thereafter.
