Ever died from suffering an AoO?

We had a player's PC die from an AoO Friday night. He tried to move back to skirmish with a Hill Giant (PC was a Scout) and got clobbered with a double critical.

I may have had a PC die from an AoO but I don't recall as it's been a couple of years.

What sort of Scout of a level high enough to be facing a Hill Giant doesn't have Spring Attack!?

The Scout deserved it!

as a DM, i had the BBEG kill 2 PCs from attacks of opportunity. :D

needless to say, he was well designed against the party's usual tactics. after another one or two died, the rest ran away. it had damn near been a cakewalk until they met him. :)

You must move 5 feet before spring attack activates IIRC. That critical 5 feet can matter!

I've died from an AoO (when not using a battlemat, though :( ). It was a marilith, it grappled me, the rest of the party was 2+ rounds away...

I've seen other players die from it. Lots.

As a GM, I've killed PCs with AoOs. Most recently, one charged a living maw that was Huge sized with a 10 ft. reach - but which needed an 18+ to hit the relatively munchkin PC. It did, however, only need one 18 and a good damage role to make the PC munch-able. :\

Absolutely never happened here. It's rare that we in our group purposefully provoke AoOs at all, and we would do it even less likely if we were already injured (although in some cases it might be possible not to think it's life-threatening).

As a DM, I always remind the players when they are about to provoke an AoO with an action, so that they can't inadvertently trigger one.

Your immunity to movement-based AoOs from your target applies to all your movement that turn, even the movement before attacking.

Hmmm. bed calls, brains not working, here is the text that lead me to that belief. more later...

Spring Attack [General]
Prerequisites
Dex 13, Dodge, Mobility, base attack bonus +4.

Benefit
When using the attack action with a melee weapon, you can move both before and after the attack, provided that your total distance moved is not greater than your speed. Moving in this way does not provoke an attack of opportunity from the defender you attack, though it might provoke attacks of opportunity from other creatures, if appropriate. You can’t use this feat if you are wearing heavy armor.

You must move at least 5 feet both before and after you make your attack in order to utilize the benefits of Spring Attack.

Special
A fighter may select Spring Attack as one of his fighter bonus feats.

Yup, I've had a PC get splattered from an AoO.

3rd or 4th level facing some sort of skeleton with reach. I had taken some attacks and needed to drink a potion. I knew I couldn't survive another onslaught from the critter so I tried to tumble out of the way and failed. The critter answered my failure by landing a critical and rolling close to maximum damage. The rest is a very bloody piece of gaming history that we decided spread itself across many, many squares (due to the impressive negative number I had for hp afterwards).
