Ok, enough of the getting rid of players threads.

Have you ever lost an amazing player that you would love to have back?
They either moved away, or left because of someone else, or just got tired of the game, etc.

Tell us about them.

One of my best players moved to Georgia and became the line editor for Mage: The Ascension, the bum! ;)

He could be a problem child sometimes, but he was a great one for playing the genre right!

-The Gneech

One of my best players and one of the DMs who taught me the game moved to California and then Colorado as the military moved him around. I would kill to have him back as a player of a DM again (still keep in touch, and went to his wedding in Denver a month ago).

Helene. . .

She played Jana (then Derek and then Anarie) in my "Out of the Frying Pan" campaign (see sig), and kept awesome notes that were helpful both to the other players and to me in terms of keeping up the story hour.

She always brought soda and snacks to the games, donated our pig to the table and was always on time and always down to play longer if we had the chance.

She was also a kick-ass role-player.

Her visa expired and she was laid off from her job so had to move back to France. . . :(

Best DM I ever had was the first one, a lawyer named Jamie Fish in Louisville back around 1979. Guy had an entire orc army painted  and really made it a good time. Last I heard he had moved to the DC area but no amount of googling has enabled me to find him. If any of you guys know who I'm talking about please let me know.

I dont have enough time!!!

I used to game in Southern California at a store called I Love Games and Comics Too.
Over a period of about 5 years the group haad evolved and grown, with a core group of about 13 players and various migrant players wandering though.

The group has spoiled me, both due to the quality of play, but also the deeper roleplaying and generally intelligent gaming that occured.

Of those I miss the most:
Drew, the Star Wars {WEG} game master.. successfully ran a 4 year campaign that all involved still want to continue. Currently in the sand box leading troops.
Dennis, the most paranoid and scarily intelligent manipulator of plot-lines. Great to have as a co-player.. dangerous to be running games for.
Ira, one of the best roleplayers. He would play a character concept to the hilt.. even to the point of taking a character on his own path when the party went a different way. Also very knowledgeable of the Sci-Fi universe and damn good Aliens GM.
Cousin.. another great role-player. Memorable moment > my Bounty Hunter, who never took prisoners as it was annoying, joined the group and, after 45 minutes of conversation with the young, ideal Jedi... got introduced as the 'Saviour of Innocence. :)
Critter.. so named due to a propensity to rol natural Crits.

All in all, the entire group tended to play in support of each other and enjoyed running odd-ball games. Being in a game store, we tried virtually every game on the shelf at some point.
The stories of games that happened at that place are legendary, at least to us :)

Split up due both the the stores closing and to reassignements across the country. That is one major downside to military groups.

The good news is that we just started an online game via a Yahoo group :)

Ya, it was an odd thing, too. you know how they say when you lose things that they just don't get up and walk away? Well, he got up and walked away. We searched high and low for him...under the couch, behind the book case, in the closet, in the pantry...but we never did find him.

Yes, unfortunately. One of my best players moved to Boston about a year ago and created a vacuum in our game. He is a bright guy and a natural leader, well respected by the rest of the group. The leadership mantle he left has still not been fully taken up by any one player. Our group tends to have a "leader of the week" sort of thing happening, which works out fine for now, but does cause some confusion when different players wish to lead simultaneously.

I've made three massive moves in my life. Each time I moved, I lost a whole group. And then there are the others who have had to move while I stayed still.

Moving breaks up a lot of gaming groups. I always seem to find a new one, but it can take time to rebuild.

I guess this is why I don't want to move anymore! ;)

So here is to Tahiti Joe, Evvy, the Catman, St. Denis, and many, many others who I have lost over the years. May your dice still tumble well!

A moment to give libation to a few gone but not forgotten players...

Skot -- That boy could play! Then he got married, lost his spine, and became painfully domesticated.
Maylan -- Enjoying life in the U.S. Army, recently came back to visit and played in the first game of a new Eberron campaign...a big treat for the group.
Scott -- Left after medical school to start his internship in Indiana, now has a career as a physician.
Dan -- Left to spend three years in Japan teaching English.
Jay -- Swallowed whole by an electrician's apprenticeship, he is well missed.
Al -- Joined the National Guard and moved on.
Mike -- Joined the Navy and enjoyed life aboard submarines.
