Ever pick an Item Creation Feat as a Paladin, Ranger, PrC?

Has anyone ever had a paladin, ranger, or melee-type PrC that can cast spells, that had Item Creation Feats?

I'm curious if anyone out there had, say a high-level paladin that had brew potion, craft magic arms and armor, etc.

Did you create custom items, weapons, armor tailored to your character? Did it make it easier to find that special sword you wanted, by being able to theortically make it?

It just recently occurred to me that melee-oriented spellcasters could be able to create magic items. Although I am not sure how efficient it would be or how powerful their magic items would be, it strikes me as an interesting idea nonetheless.

My Ranger is 9th level and I've had Craft Wondrous Items since level 6. I haven't crafted any custom items yet, but I have some ideas. So far I've made a lot of utility items though.

What kind of items have you made and how difficult was it?

I have a 3rd level Holy Liberator PrC, which I assume is a 3rd level caster since he starts casting spells at 1st level of the PrC.

I am contemplating getting the Craft Wondrous Item Feat, but I am not sure how useful or effecient it would be, especially since I would be at such a low caster level.

I've made 3 of each pearl of Powers 1 and 2 (the cleric, Wizard and myself each have one of each). I made boots of elvenkind for the rogue (I'm a 1/2 elf). I made a torc of animal speech, lenses of tracking, belt of lions, enemy spirt pouch, and maybe some thing else that's all I can recall.

We took the winter off in game and I used that time and most of the parties money (:D) to craft many items.

You have no idea how many people give me and my players the "you're a weirdo" look whenever we bring up "taking the winter off." It's a long standing tradition that the characters take winter off. At 2nd level there wasn't much choice; high mountains and not much wildnerness lore = dead PCs. At 6th level it was because the wizard had stumbled upon a cache of spells and the clerics were being indoctrinated into the churches' ways, each needing several weeks of study. At 10th level it was time to make magic items and a full fledged tradition.

My 13th level Paladin will consider a magic item crafting feat for his next feat.

I'm thinking scrolls of Holy Weapon could be nice.

Or making his own armor and weapons could be very useful.

Either way, at 15th level I feel I can start to really afford the experience point loss for making items.

My paladin way back when took craft wand, and I never regreted it, not only oculd I bust out spells left and right, but since we removed the lame flavor restricitons on multi-classing we had a paladin/sorcerer/spellsword in our party or our worlds god of magic, and I was able to suply him with wands of paladin spells he normally couldn't cast.(the destruction was beautiful)

I'd be surprised if in most worlds the game payed attention to weather and seasons at all, except for maybe individual plot points.

What do you think the better Wondrous Magic Items a low level spellcaster can create with the Craft Wondrous Item feat?

I'm debating either between this feat or Power Attack.

But then again, I have to ask my DM for approval for this feat first I think.

Remember that your effective level is 1/2 of the true level(13th level = 6th level caster) . Only if you are a Paladin or Ranger. Prestige class I would need to investigate further.
